Raced a new BMW 335 2 times, at the slow track.
I needed a little stress relief, so I took myself to the track for some fun.
I was going to drive to Silver Dollar Raceway, but the thought of a 3 hour drive put me off. Instead I went to Commerce, which is known for being up to half a second slower than the surrounding tracks, partly due to elevation. Traps are known to run 2+ mph lower there as well.
The track temp was in the 100 degree range upon my arrival, so I expected to be lucky to hit a 13.9, given the horrible conditions.
Surprisingly, I ran a 13.613 best, with a so so 2.054 60'. The staging tech would not let me do two little burnouts, so I was limited to one after a few trips, and traction became tricky. I backed up my best run with a 13.645.
My clutch pedal dropped to the floor 4 times, and came out about halfway in first on a couple of passes, so I suspect I was again losing some top end trap to the clutch problem, which I need to get fixed before hitting 12K.
On to the part everyone wants to know about.
I met up with a guy who had a new 2007 BMW 335. We lined up 2 times, during the worst part of the evening, when it was still close to 100 degrees on the track.
First run he redlighted and jumped out ahead, but I had a quicker time, with a 13.8 versus his 14.2. Second race was closer, with close reaction times, but I got the better launch, and went 13.8 to his 14.0.
His high trap for the night was 101.75, mine was 101.62.
Keep in mind the DA started at 2,851.
Both cars run very close with equal drivers. I would give the 335 a slight edge, due to the torque advantage. I was surprised out how they seem to run almost even, once moving.
Sorry, I didn't have a video person. I went alone. Maybe next time.

That DA isnt all that bad really. Especially for 100 degree temp. I would love to even hit a 13.6, never mind in such hot weather. I take it the 335 was completely stock. Still pretty impressive, but I thought they were a little faster stock.
Now go get that damn clutch pedal fixed!

Sounds like a hot fun day. I have raced a few 335's and its a drivers race with the edge going to the bmw. Never lost hehe but they are very nice cars. Get that clutch fixed and hit the faster tracks, I want to see 12.9 from you!

I'm sure a stock 07 Z can keep up to a stock 335i. This two should make interesting races, just as you showed.
But trust me, the 335i will walk any stock 03-06 Z. Those things are very fast.
Now if its chipped, don't even bother trying to beat it unless the Z is FI.
I am very impressed with the 335i in terms of performance.
Good runs VeeTec.

Im not sticking up for the 335i but on a hot day like that, the turbos get super hot and lag really bad.
The 07 Z should be on par with the 335i with the edge going to the 335.
Also the 335 driver seem'd like a not so decent driver,
I ran 13.9 with a 300lbs passenger and i was also at 2800ft above sea level. And i have the sedan.
Veetec MAD props for runing a 13.6 at that elevation.

Yes. They are the stock tires now.

Good runs Veetec... once that DA goes past 1500 forget getting decent passes in.
Is there any fix for the clutch issues?? Seems that everyone has this issue....

Not that I know of.
I am taking mine in before it hits 12K, but the replacement may do the same thing. It will buy me another 12K miles of coverage.

Good luck! I hope they figure something out... i have ~70K on my factory Z06 clutch and no problems... I would hope your clutch should last a bit longer without issues

I think a lot of the problem with the clutch pedal going to the floor is just a ****ty clutch. Anytime my pedal has done to the floor has been due to me burning the clutch or just getting it hot.

Doesn't the 07 have a new slave cylinder design also, where the slave cylinder is in the trans housing and sits directly behind the throwout bearing? It could be getting hot along with the clutch and causing these problems.
Yes, I found this in forged performance's teardown of a new HR engine and tranny.
This looks more suspect than the clutch, since this is a new design/new part and the clutch is probably very similar to before...

Clutch fork has been deleted. Now uses an internal slave cylinder mounted on the input shaft, which directly actuates the TO bearing. Very cool...seen this before on late model FWD cars, and is becoming more common these days.

I also ran into the same problem with the clutch pedal sticking to the floor so my car is at the dealer.

Not that im doubting you or anything, but are you sure he wasnt just playing with you? If I recall, you're stock for the 07 Z (intake, exhaust won't do much as far as a chipped 335i). If he were stock, I'd believe it. But the Vishnu chip adds atleast another 70 whp & 50 wtq....
I ran a 335i Vishnu chipped at LACR with my near-stock 06 G35 6MT; (I know my 06 G 6MT Coupe is slower than the stock 07 Z by a significant amount)... and the 335i blew the doors out of my car.
I've ran stock 07 Z's, and comparing them with what the chipped 335i did, it would have also walked an 07 Z, easily.
I've seen these Vishnu Chipped 335i's trap as high as 110
