well i went to orlando speedway tonight and ran down a quater mile track for the first time! my car is completely stock, but i wanted to see what i can do, and what i can improve on... well here are the stats, be nice all but any info would help...

04 g35 coupe 6mt

Best run
rt....575

My rt's went down each run but my 60's got worse i ran a consistent 14.5 all night. all in all i had a great time, and practice is def in order but i want to hit low 14's stock! so till next time...

Its the 60 foot thats weak, but not bad for a first attempt. Ive seen people in the 15s. I was lucky, my first attempt has been my best so far.

On a more serious note, the car is running strong picking up 22 MPH in the second 660-feet. As plumpzz mentioned, 60-foot time is hurting ET. So is ambient temperature. I can definitely see 13.99 seconds in the fall.

reaction times have no bearing on your final time. the timer doesnt start until your car moves foward.

We cant recommend anything to you unless you let us know how you are launching to begin with. Are you picking and RPM and slipping the clutch. Are you dumping the clutch? What PSI is in your tires? All that good stuff.

And like Nexx said basically, forget about your RT unless you are bracket racing which you are not.

Try reducing your rear tires to around 26psi...
Remove your tire, jack, and all excess crap in the car....

Then go give it another try.
Practice is the best thing, ohh darn...

last night i experimented with a 2000,2500, and 3000 rpm launch. my best 60 was with the 2500. as much as i would love to say i am slipping it, i may have dumped it out of excitement lol but what PSI should i be at, i didnt drop my tires at all. also what kind of techniques do you guys use?

Stock tire pressures have served me VERY well. A stiff sidewalled tire doesn't like to be dropped the same way a wrinkle wall does. VeeTec was saying the same so I know I'm not alone here.

A good clutch slip from 3500-5000 does the trick for me

Different tires, different staging pad preparation, different ambient temperature will require different tire pressure. If you drive to the dragstrip, remember that you will be measuring hot pressure. Begin the day with 34 PSI. Drop tire pressure 2 PSI after each run. You will find a sweet spot.

Keep in mind that dropping tire pressure increases rolling resistance.

The way I convinced myself to run 35 psi and keep it (aside from having faster 60' times....I was trying to blame better track prep) was that I did a quick launch on a backroad, and rather than leave a full width tire mark, there were marks from the edges of the tire where the sidewalls were forcing it down.

There is a spot that will work best, but honestly I've never (3 different tire types, Dunlop SP2000, Toyo T1-R, and now the RE050A) gained anything by dropping below 30 psi.

I had good luck with 28-30psi.
I like to start lower and then work my way up personally.

It is all about finding the spot.
Let us know how you do next time you go out
Good luck, and don't get discouraged.

Hint hint....don't listen to everyone.

Veetec mentioned he ran stock tire pressures, I couldn't believe it, gave it a shot (do a scrub your tires tire spin in the burnout box) and I have been able to pull 1.9's consistently.

Radial tires with stiff sidewalls (aka potenzas) don't like low pressure - they grip better with 35 psi.

How does this technique work for you? Post a time slip.
