well i was all excited to finally make it to the track and get some more practice.
This is at ORP in Indy (formerly IRP)
This track does not prep for open drags so 60ft times always suck.
My first run i had to wait about 40 minutes in line and was very nervous and excited at the same time. For some reason i get butterflies in my stomach when i go to the track for my first run.
i got some mild wheel hop but gripped quikly. had clean shifts at redline until fourth. I was trying to shift as fast as i could and didn't get it all the way into gear, so i just coasted across the finish at about 85mph.
The second run i had to wait about 45 minutes to get to the front of the line and then two cars before my turn some guy blew a water pump gasket and got water all over the track so i had to wait for another 25 minutes before i could go again. The second run was the same as the first but i slipped the clutch a bit more on the launch an had little wheelspin no wheel hop but a slower 60 ft.
Run #1
60ft 2.29
330 6.2
1/8 9.41 @78.12 mph
1000 12.106
1/4 14.641 @84.51 mph MIssed 4th and let off after that
Run #2
60ft 2.377
330 6.727
1/8 9.438 @ 79.18 mph
1000 12.125
1/4 14.485 @ 95.5 mph Missed 4th again but put it back in gear so that i could beat the guy next to me.
All in all it wasn't a total waste. I did however get a new personal best 1/8 speed of 79.18 to my previous 77.88 mph.

do power shift? you can knock off ~.5 sec with powershifting. Its not hard to do, just a little rough on the tranny/clutch.
seems like your top end of the track is whats lacking. your only picking up 15mph. When i was na i could pick up 22-23mph after the 1/8th. Guessing it has to do with you missing 4th gear all the time
.
some DR's wouldnt hurt either.......

not going to powershift because my z is my only car and i can't afford to get a new tranny.
any regarding only picking up 15 mph in the last 1/8 that is because of the miss shift. At that point i notices that the turbo sentra next to me was going to pass so i put it back in gear and just barely got in front of him.

My thoughts..
Not being a dick...obviously work on the shift into 4th.
Then get some Dr's or put on some meetier 295 tires...
I know they fit my Buddy Dil has them on his 350..

If you take what the guys are saying, you'll see you need to:
1) Work on your launch to improve your 60'. If you're spinning, try launching at a lower RPM and "feathering" the release of the clutch as you apply the gas.
2) I'm not sure why you're missing 4th. FULLY DEPRESS the clutch, don't try and cheat it. Once you can consistently run without missing shifts, then work on making the shifts faster.
3) Stop saying you suck. If you think you're going to fail, you will. But obviously keep your goals realistic. People like that p*ss me off.

i tried explaining it all in my first post.
the track is not prepped for open drags hence crappy 60 ft times and spinning
i missed 4th because i was thinking about making a fast shift instead of actually thinking about my shifting. and that is why i missed 4th.
i said i suck kind of as a joke

Carry on then.
you can't make excuses for your bad times man i guarantee the track is not any worst than the one i run at. The track i go to here is in temple texas it is so small you cant go around the water box so i run i with wet tires all the time on 19,s and the track is not prepped. To give you an idea of how bad it is brand new z06 usually hit low 13,s to really high 12's on this track plus texas has horrible humidity and temps. I ran a 14.2 stock in my auto with heavy stern 19's and horrible conditions with a 60ft of 2.3 something almost 2.4. Find it as a challenge and practice the track conditions are very rarely perfect but i understand what your talking about but you should still be running better times. In the meantime im going to try to go to sanantonio and run with solo 350z where i can actually pull better times.

OP-dont give up, more seat time will help, work on that launch before you worry about shifting!

oh wait, insecurity.

i wouldnt say horrible. I knocked off .5 with just switching to power shifting. same crappy 60ft and only a slightly higher trap. True, its only a bandaid and not the real solution. I probably should not suggest power shifting to a guy that cant find 4th.
Imo, 4th is easy to find. Its the 2nd to 3rd that can get tricky. Ive only missed 3rd. I still need to work on my 60ft's as well, going to try to go to an 1/8th mile track instead of the 1/4.

its not that i couldn't find 4th, i just didn't pull all the way back. There was no grind or anything i was over excited and not paying enough attention to the task at hand. Practice does make perfect, and i plan on going many many many more times.
