Default NA V6 Mustang runs 13.8. WTF!!!!

The title says it all.

I was in total disbalief. The guy did this at a track near my house.

Here is the link with timeslips, he has some videos on as well.

TB and exhaust cut-out as only mods? And its an auto...something seems weird, he traps strong in the 1/8 and DIES by the 1/4. He matches my 1/8 trap from when I ran 13.1 @ 107mph, but gets beat by 11mph in the 1/4 mph....not too shabby for a fake muscle car.

Something seems weird. That trap speed is really good in the 1/8th, but the ET for the 1/8th is nothing special. That 60' is "good," but it doesn't make sense to me. I wonder what the dyno for HIS car would look like. I know it has a lot of low end - but that would make me think his ET would be lower (and a lower trap speed).

He's got more mods than that. CAI, headers, test pipes, exhaust, tune. The numbers really don't seem to jive. An 83mph trap with a 1.9 sixty should yield better than an 8.9 in the 1/8th.

Regardless, I'm impressed. From everything I've read those 4.0's are a joke.

Just for clarification, his mods are

-Underdrvie pulley
-CAI
-Xcal Tune
-Aluminum Driveshaft
-Dual Exhaust, w/ cutouts
-Drag radials
-"a few other minor mods"
-and I know he has some weight reduction

Im thinking that his ET is so slow because the car really doesnt have much power. He has significant mods for weight reduction and rotational mass reduction. He has a great 60ft. And those cars make pretty good torque but absolutely no horsepower. So it is strong down the first half and then just dies.

Those motors remind me of a backwards S2000 motor. The hp and tq numbers are reversed.

a few other minor mods probably include gears if he is running strong in the 1/8 like that.

but who knows.

Doesn't the V6 weigh a decent bit less, have the engine further back, etc.

He might be planning to go FI and take a weight loss approach. Might plan to make a road course car from it at some point. I don't know the guy so I can't really comment, but I know a lot of people that buy 528/530 BMW's instead of 540's because they plan to go FI and would rather have the weight savings and the better steering (rack and pinion instead of reciprocating ball) setup.

There is always a good reason someone does something, sometimes its not obvious though.

That is hauling for a V6 Stang!
Regardless of what mods he has I am impressed
That is a junk motor...

I have made a mental picture of that car incase I see it around.

C&L CAI
Tune by alternative auto, never on dyno
screamn demon coil
livewires
zabtech 70mm throttle body
Braille street racing light weight battery
PHP alternator pulley
MAC long tube headers
MAC pro chamber and off road pipes
Moroso sprial flow mufflers
Jba rear mufflers

Chassis-
4:10 T-Loc
J&M LCA's
J&M on car adjustable panhard par
Springtech springs
J&M Camber plates
Powerhouse411 4” aluminum driveshaft
UPR adjustable rear upper link
BMR rad support
BMR Stut tower brace
GT rear sway bar
BMR anti squat brackets
T/A rear girdle
tokio spec d rear shocks

These are ALL his mods so we can really see whats going on....everything on the car is setup for a great launch which he gets somewhat but without the torque his 1.9 seems okay....with more power it will obviously come down as he has prepped the car to put down all available power

So a fully prepped bolt-on V6 Mustang goes 13.9....13.898 is a wayyy closer to 13.9 than a 13.8 flat but whatever

This kid obviously had been working a great deal to make this thing ET better and it shows....that trap means its all in the 60'

A similar Z would run a full second faster But I cant knock the guy for taking his personal ride and improving on it little by little....thats what drag racing is all about

His track is also only about 850ft ASL which should have decent air this time of year....probably 60* weather maybe less?

Like Alberto pointed out, this car DIES in the last 1/8 mile to its full 1/4 mile.

The trap for a 1/8th is strong, but its E.T is mediocre for that trap. And after that, it seems as if it has no power left. How do you trap 83 mph in the 1/8th mile then only trap 97mph in the 1/4 mile. Bad gearing? Strange power-band?

I'm sure those V6's respond good to modifications just as any other American engine. Either way, I think those cars are pretty disappoiting for carrying a Mustang badge. It better be atleast a GT or... its nothing special to say the least.

Impressive E.T for being an almost Full NA + Tune Mustang V6.

Here is a 13.89 second time slip of mine for comparison. The Mustang is 3.3 MPH faster than the 350Z in the 1/8 mile. I catch the Mustang at the finish line with a 4.8 MPH faster trap speed. If this was a heads-up race, the best reaction time would win.

Impressive ET for a Mustang V6.

^^^ Nice.

It doesn't matter what you have. Race what you got, if it's a 16 second volvo or a 9 second beast.

I've accomplished some decent times in my car, and I've considered moving on to something better suited for the job, like a Mustang GT or a GTO. But I know if I ever did that, even my best times would be simply mediocre compared against other drivers in the same car.

The 13.8-13.9 is very believeable with all that work on the 4.0 V6. I've had one for a rental a few years back and it was very truckish sounding and it revved like one too, but the 0-50mph acceleration was healthy. That guy has a couple thousand in power mods and he's now running ETs compared to many 05+ GTs. That's impressive. The near 84mph 1/8 trap speed is a bt suspect though. That really can't be right, even for a truck motor. To only gain 14mph in the last 1/8 doesn't make sense at all. A high 8.9@83.5mph with a mid 1.9 60 foot doesn't make sense. It is very possible that those trap boxes are off and the numbers should be closer to 79-80mph. That car should be gaining closer to 18-19mph in the last 1/8, maybe even 20mph. 98mph in the 1/4 makes sense for his level of mods, not 102mph (if you were to use 83-84mph traps in the 1/8) so I'd have to say 8.9@80 to a 13.8@98mph.

Prior to my track being redone a few years back, the left lane ALWAYS kicked out MPHs 2.5-3mph slower than the right lane, but the 1/8 mile ET/MPH and 1/4 ET were dead on. I don't know how it happens, but it does.

It's possible he let off a little bit before the 1/4 mile - that could explain the seemingly weak 1/4 mile trap. I wonder what his other timeslips look like.

his trap speed probably has to do with where the trans shift points are. it may just be shifting out of 2nd after the eighth and shift right before the traps

He has a few timeslips that are pretty similar.

But about your comment about the track being bad. This track is the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen in my life. The name is Lapeer Dragway. It looks like it was home made in someones cornfield. With all of the old technology there is a possibility that it was off somewhere.
