Default Back from the track....

I know only a handfull of people care but I went out Saturday and ran at Cordova.. I wish I could drive like some of you guys because this is very frustrating.... i made ~11 passes and only 4 passes included me finishing the pass. The rest were all me missing 3rd gear and coasting my way to the end (I think my stock clutch is finally going or 3rd gear is getting bad, I have 76K on the clock) . The others were alright... I had two 13.8 @ 105~106mph passes (2.5 and a 2.4 60ft) while I was figuring out how to launch using a little rpm... (1200rpm on both of those)... then I went from ~1000rpm and rode the clutch out... 2.1 60ft... 8.6 @ 94mph 1/8th... 13.2 @ 107mph.. On the way down I hit the limiter on every shift ..I was trying to watch but just couldn't seem to find the sweet spot before it would hit.. I thought It was a terrible run until I got my slip... So I mentally marked where I was hitting and went for it again... I launched at ~1000rpm again... rode the clutch out... 2.1 60ft... slapped the limiter on my 1 to 2 shift (damn it)... nailed the other gears perfect... 8.6 @ 85mph 1/8th...13.1 @ 108mph While I can't really complain I was REALLY hoping for a 12.999999 or maybe a 13.0 but 13.1 is going to have to do it. I have the mph and the 60ft could easily make it happen but my factory tires are gone and the paper filter I have is getting old so it's time to replace those and lose the stock status. I only wish I hadn't filled up before I headed over and ran half a tank or even a 1/4 tank..but I am not sure if the fuel weight didn't help me with traction so it was probably a trade off.

I wish Veetec and Peak350 the best of luck on your quest and I hope you are successfull. Honestly I would like to see the rest of the world recognize the 350zs potential and stop the whole 14 second car bs... *specially the mustang guys*.

I will have my slips scanned here soon and posted. Take it easy guys.

12's would be very easy in your set-up, keep working on it. The best teacher is experience...

Hey,

You improved substantially. Correct me if Im wrong but your old PB was a 13.4@104.

Thats a good improvement.

-By the way, I call B.S because I have never seen a LS1 run under 14's. So its pretty much impossible to run in the 12's sorry kid.
^^^^^^^^
Just kidding, but that is the mentality of some people on other forums that you and I both know of.

Haha.. that's not a lie..I've seen several people who told me I should be happy with a mid 13 because it wasn't going to do any better. I am actually happy to say none of those people post on this board.

Yep my previous best was 13.4 @ 104mph on a 2.1 60ft (It was near 90 degrees in the middle of summer.. 3200DA).. what a difference the air makes.

I don't think I'm gonna make it another 3k miles on my rear tires. I've stopped driving as aggressive because I just noticed I can get a GREAT deal on the wheels I want and I'm trying to scrap together an extra grand over tires.

That said, I'm going wednesday, will be late so probably only get 4 runs or so in, expecting to not best my 13.2, but weather should be at least 10 degrees lower so I might see a 13.1 or better.

Either way - good times. I wouldn't be surprised if you were able to break into 12's just by dropping the weight of your gas. You could try pulling a sway bar endlink off too once you go out of the "stock" class. Its free and an easy enough mod but apparently really helps with weight transfer.

Good runs!
That is hauling for a Stock Z28.

You can get there, just keep at it, and you'll hit your goal!

Thanks Jess....

Peak, I wish I was able to hook as well as you...with a 1.9 60ft I would have seen a 12.7~12.8...just can't get it done with these 245 width tires... I wish you luck.. I love how quick the 07s have been ... seems like every couple of weeks you guys managed lower times.. sure shut up a lot of people!!! I sadly have come to realize my driving leaves a lot to be desired and unless I spend a lot of time at the track next year I don't stand a chance of getting a 12.9 like I wanted.. practice does make perfect but with being on call all the time for the ambulance service and the number of fire calls handled a year (which isn't a lot..but they still add up) I never seem to have time to get any. I have a few mods laying at the house already so I am going to be moving on from stock, I can't say I am crushed for running what I did..I still consider it to be insanely quick for a 22K car that's rated 310hp. It's actually a little humbling watching a 3.5L V6 with 306hp running close to my 5.7L V8 in performance. Technology has come a long ways... commands a lot of respect from my end.

Next year the Z28 will be sitting on 265 or 275 width rubber, 1LE springs (2 inch drop plus they are stiffer) and a lid so it will be interesting to see what happens.

The launch is 90% that I have a track with a lot of good cars laying down good rubber, and they do a pretty good job of prepping it. Most nights I complain because when they get the prep spot on I barely have enough power to spin the tires. I haven't seen that prep since mid season (summer) but its still better than most.

I doubt you're as bad as you think - stock LS1 cars on 245 all season tires don't really stand a chance of a good launch. The V8 builds too much torque too low and the tires really have no grip if the track isn't extra sticky. A 2.1 is a good short time - I'd expect a 1.9/1.8 once you get some better tires on there (esp. if DR's) but it really depends what tires you get.

I just know I seem to make a stupid mistake on every pass...hitting limiters, missing gears, spinning the tires off... out of 11 passes I got 2 good times and the rest were just horrible.. LOL.. I think my driving could use some improvement..but I'm not the worst driver in the world either. LOL I would have tried power shifting but I have trouble shifting normally let alone anything fancy. LOL

You should put 275's out back.
What tire you thiking of getting? DRS?
Why 1LE springs? those are mainly for handling on a road course?
Yeah they lower the center of gravity of the car, but they are not going to help the car rock to the back and stick. They might actually hinder that with there stiffness.

If you really wanna hook save the money on the springs and by some Koni Adjustables. Thats what I have on my Camaro and it was a WORLD of difference. Lakewood makes a FANTASTIC 90/10 50/50 front and rear setup for your car as well.

You would hit 12's no problem with the shocks and better tire...

Just a thought I have been dragracing My Camaro since I was 17 and Fbody's are my Passion

No that's cool I appreciate any and all feedback.

I will probably be trying to get some 265s and something good for both summer and winter (I daily drive this thing, hail, snow, wind, rain...)..

As for the springs I would rather have a great handling vehicle and sacrifice a bit of the 'drag aspect' (something I know most of you guys can relate to).. .of course the Camaro isn't a great drag car from the factory IMHO.. stock springs are already pretty stiff, thick sway bars on the front don't allow good transfer, and the pathetic tires do little to help you get traction.

Overall I would rather have a little more edge in the handling department than at the dragstrip...especially knowing with just better tires and a lid I would have 12s taken care of. Besides that I make it to the track MAYBE once a year so I spend far more time taking off ramps/on ramps than I do launching from a dead stop.

Gotcha,
In that case the the 1LE is your best bet.
You drive it everyday, good work!

Then throw away everything I said.
Sorry I thought it was a toy like mine.

Subfram connnectors will be your best handling and straightline acceleration upgrade too. My car handlied like night and day with that.. (Before I made it a drag car with Lakewoods)

What tire you thinking of getting?

I have a set of SFCs lined up for the spring... and I will probably get Potenzas again.. I've had RE930s and RE730s and drove 365 for about 4 years with them.. Of course I use tirerack and read the reviews before I jump on anything so I am not 100% set on what tire I am getting just yet.
