Default Z gearing bad for drag?

I've been doing alot of reading on different car forums as of late, and I've seen that the C5 Z06's and other Vettes are running 10 second passes with only 450whp. Is this because of their longer gearing?

Thanks

I'm not too familiar with the drag racing ... but I'd be guessing it's due to the sticky tires(drag radials and slicks) and high torque?

I'm not really the one to ask though ...

10 sec passes with ~450whp, must be one heck of a launch. I'd like to know more to this too. Supras and Zs with ~450whp don't touch 10's

Well maybe not 450whp exactly, but that's what they seem to be about with longtubes, exhaust, HFC's, FAST intake, new heads, cams, intake, tune.

Cars with above mods are running 10's.

I plan on going to the drags when they start again (after winter) as well as doing some minor track days and auto-Xing.

Sick of street racing really, and since I'm selling my car I plan on driving as much as I can until . . . well . . . she sells LOL.

here's the effective gearing.

Code:
350Z C6Z06
13.423172	9.0972
8.222312	6.0876
5.745712	4.446
4.496798	3.42
3.538 2.5308
2.809172	1.71
maybe someone else can comment but it seems to me that the z06 gearing like launching the 350z in second gear, assuming similar tire radius, only a bit more aggressive. i didnt check gear ratios but i assume they're just set to optimize time in powerband. while im no drag racer i would also assume that the c6z06 gearing is set to maximize the usefulness of the car's high torque and 325mm tires from launch.... 0-60mph times are very important to gm for the vette.

since the 350z is heavier, i wonder if you had a TT with tires that wide and launched from 2nd gear, would you be able to cut a 1.8 60' on street tires?

450whp is 450whp......the Z'oh's are just beasts because they have a long initial first gear, torque like crazy, and 305 tires to back it up.

You will figure out the 350Z gears quickly if you race. The naturally aspirated 350Z crosses the 1/4 mile line short of 4th gear redline. This is not an ideal place to be.

I haven't the faintest what your car will do. Just get out there and have fun.

I'm gonna race until I can run consistent times (guessing a high to mid 11). After that I will swap out my 3.5 FD for a 3.3 FD and see how that affects my 1/4 times.

If it helps I will keep it. If it makes me slower, then well, guess we don't really need 1st gear if the other gears get us there faster lol.

I bought 275/60/15 MT ET Street Radials(28" diameter) to lengthen the gears.

I ran an 11.2 with 400whp so I could easily see 10's with 450whp. My car is an 03 base so its the lightest model but the taller tire coupled with the traction they provide is key.

A 3.3 FD would do the trick but then you couldn't change back to a 3.5 easily.

That C6 (you said C5) Z06 is an outlier, and who knows what is really done to that car. I saw the stock tire and slick tire timeslips for it as well, but 505chp does not add up to a 128mph trap. I raced 3 C6Z06s at Sacramento Raceway over the past two weeks, and none of them were close to that time or trap speed. They were closer to 120-121mph trap speed, and the increased trap speed is heavily non-linear to rwhp. Thankfully, none of them had a chance vs what I was running, so I was happy.
