Default 04 6spd - first time at the track

Well i went to the drag strip for the first time ever today. don't consider my self a pro driver at all. im all stock cept i have a jwt popcharger. my best time i got was 14.2 here is how the slip looked

reaction - 1.1736
60ft - 2.3233
330ft - 6.2110
1/8 - 9.3195
1/8 mpg - 79.81
1000ft - 11.9666
1000ft mpg - none
1/4 - 14.2001
1/4 mph - 101.58

i know reaction time sucked and so did 60ft, but man i didnt know i'd have so much trouble with traction!! i thought the track would be stickier than regular roads, but i couldnt floor it in first at all cause it would lose, spun into 2nd and spun into 3rd. no matter how good off the line, right when i'd floor it after it "hooked" i could feel lit slipping again. i'm running on dunlop DZ101s that have bout half of their life on them. i was surprised at how much i was losing traction.

i went with two friends, 07 Z auto and 08 G37 auto. the Z ran a best of 13.9 i think and the G ran 13.8s constantly.

critique away! i thought the launch was good, but just how it was slipping after it hooked from the launch killed me i think.

Not bad for a first time. What rpms were you launching at? Sounds like the track may not have been prepared too well if you were getting such bad traction issues, or you were launching at too high rpms.

I don't think that is that bad.
If you have an 04 with only a popcharger...

Like Skorch asked, what did you launch at?
Did you feather the clutch, or just dump it?

Better 60ft and faster shifting and you should break into the high 13's soon. Keep practicing!!!

Practice and you'll get into the 13's. And have fun while you're doing it.

haha thanks davidv!

i know first time i launched two high, it was like 3500 rpm, ran a 14.4 that time. but after that i had lowered it to prob around 2000-2200. i think after the bad reaction time, the launch was fine cause i wouldnt spin too much, but after it caught traction, i was incapable of flooring it in first and part of second cause it would start slippin again. Lol i got kind of frustrated.

That would probably be the cause of the spinning. Next time try experimenting with feathering the clutch at different rpms and I bet you'll see an improvement in your 60' times and your ET.

I could not agree more with this.
I dumped my clutch the first few times I was at the track ( I was used to My Camaro with slicks)...

Feathering is the key, and all it is is practice...
Good luck!

I have a handful of 14.2 second time slips from 2004. With racing regularly it gets better.

Why is that funny? You should do better. You have an auto plus more mods. The Ipod integration is good for at least a tenth.

in SD. Otherwise I would post them up for you. I'll do that once I get back in a week. A 14.2 is not a great run at all, and not hard to beat.

Well nobody said it was a great run! He was asking for advice on his run and what to fix next time. Not WHAT he ran jacka**. So until you post your slips or hell even what you supposedly ran you just it alone?

Im sure they might have confused you with that whole 'feathering the clutch' thing though so I guess thats why you had to chime in with an idiotic statment.

Don't worry too much about your times right now. with a little practice you will get it down. Just getting out there deserves props. keep it up.
