First time to the track, Orlando Speedway
Well I've had the Z for a few weeks and felt like I had a decent handle on the car so decided to take it through the 1/4. Got two runs in, the first one was solid enough, the second one was a waste of gas.... let the clutch out too quickly and spun out 1st, missed 2nd, got into 2nd spinning.... ugh. This was my first time ever drag racing at a track.
R/T- .332
60'- 2.361
1/8- 9.5 @ 77.51mph
1/4- 14.56@ 97.63
Up against a newer model GT that ran a 14.3 @ 97.43.
2nd was a 17, nuff said...
All stock, 6 speed touring. Any suggestions? Comments? I was pretty content with that first one... my friend said it's solid for this track. Anyone else run at Orlando SW? Are times generally slower? Are 13s out of the question?
It was fun to say the least. I really want to get into auto-x more, but this still rocked.

Yeah, track prep most of the time is questionable @ that track. You'll have to go out there one night when all the PF guys go out. Practice, practice, practice is the biggest thing. Did you lower your rear tires psi any? BTW, also checkout the SE section there's a big meet on the 19th here in Orlando. I think it's around 40 cars now. See you around.
Nah didn't do the tires, although I know it's a good idea. What should they be at, mid 20 psi?
I forgot to say how I launched. 3k feather the clutch, it seemed to work well for the first. The second I pretty much dropped it.

They should really post some info at the dragstrip for first timers..on top of it being nerveracking and humbling when you get done you have a chunk of paper with numbers and no clue what they mean.
Your 60ft is terrible... If you knock that down to a 2.1 60ft you would be looking at a 14.1.. and thats if you spun on your launch and everything else was perfect (which chances are, is far from what happened)... You can get to the 13s with practice. The car has it..you don't (yet).

u dont wanna lower ur tire pressure to less than 30 psi if ur on stock tire. the stock tires have a pretty stiff side wall, and if u lower the tire pressure to much, ur tread will "fold" and the middle and u'll only have traction at the edges of ur tires rather then the whole tire
as for all other advice, go read www.rangeracceleration.com
the only thing thats different for a 350z then a vette (that site is aimed at vettes) is that u don't wanna do a long burn out with stock tires, just a short peel out to clean the tires of debri

Many new racers get discouraged with their first couple of times at the dragstrip and never return. Some racers jump in and do great. Others like me take a little longer to catch on. It took me 4 seasons to figure out how to run 13.3X seconds.
Commitment will get you there.
Looks like your Z had a potential of low 14's with a better 60 ft for that given day & track. Judging off the trap speed of both your Z & the 05+ Mustang GT, im guessing it wasn't the best day in terms of DA's.
Practice, more experience, and better track conditions will yield better results for you. Most importantly, go out there and have fun!

the track is actually not NHRA cert yet. they repaved it all , new scoreboards, new bleachers, new everything trying to get approved this year. many people go to the other few tracks around to run better times. OSW is known for poor traction.
Keep practicing and you will get it.
It is VERY humbling like they said.
Have fun, and try to make it tonight so they can give you some pointers.
Advice is always helpful!
