Default CVT transmission

Has anyone here that is F/I thought about doing a CVT transmission (nissan has a couple in their VQ powered suv's, maybe they'd bolt up?) into their Z. I think it'd be a highly fabricated project, however i think in terms of drag racing it would be very benificial to a F/I Z/G. Since there is no shifting with a CVT tranny, you would not lose any boost at anypoint during the 1/4 mile. It would hold at a steady boost the whole time...in theory. The CVT transmissions are also said to be very strong and able to withstand quite a bit of power.

Think about it, starting from the launch you would have full boost the whole 1/4 mile, no lost boost from shifting...

what'd you think?

the cvt's suck a lot of power. they are an economy transmission and arent going to be any good for racing

Have you taken a look at the currently available drag racing transmissions (i.e., powerglide, th series, as used by our forum's top 3 fastest drag racers)?

yeah, i was thinking the murano but thats a transverse mount awd so it seems that cvt really is just on fwd's. its probly not long until it makes it into a rwd like the q or m, or maybe even the trucks. but that doesnt mean ANYONE should swap it into a car for racing purposes.

The Titan's auto is rated for 275# of torque...I believe. Powerglide tranny's are a hot setup for a drag car

why would you even try to consider any other automatic tranny than a powerglide or th. the th series is, imo, good for any motor that has a low wide power band. great tranny. and the powerglide speaks for itself. a few months ago someone went 5.70 something with a pg. thats amazing.

OP, dont try to rotate the earth lol

the cvt turbo might be actually pretty nice for a street car, especially if something can be done to control the gearing(or w/e you wanna call it) choice so it doesnt drop off. for racing not really, but for a boosted DD it might be pretty nasty

Cool man let me know how it turns out.

I'm not a fan of automatics or anything like that, i just thought it was an interesting idea to have a car that (in theory) doesnt lose boost until you let off the gas. Just hold it floored and the turbo will just keep spooling. We'll see. I'll stay 6spd forever tho

just because the only CVT trans car that i've ridden in before still feels like it shifts, but im unsure if it will cause the turbo to have to respool (like after shifting or when an auto shifts). Just curious. I would think that it'd keep spooling up.
