Default ran my 04 DB track pack Z for the first time yesterday

I went to Cayuga on Aug 8th to run my Z for the first time.

time was from 8pm-11pm, temp was around 15-19c

I was there 3 hours made 12 passes.
Running on stock 06 tires 50% left
2004 track pack with a AEM CAI m6
1/2 tank of gas
made 9 passes with space tire and 40 pounds of tools in the back
3 without
and a heavy driver

This was the first time I ran a RWD car at the track as well. I tired a bunch of different techniques to launch.

Normal launch like at a stop sign (first run)
Drop at 1500 rpm
2000
2500
3000

I can’t remember which gave me the best run, I think the best was around 2500 but can’t remember

I also tried running without my space tire and tool in the rear but my time didn’t really change.

Here are a few of my time slips

Fastest pass

R/T .662
60’ 2.202
330 6.061
1/8 9.268

Reaction time is not your concern in the least. Dont worry about that, unless you start bracket racing.

Consistent low 60's, no higher then 2.1 is what you need. Your trap speed is a little low I would think. You should be able to hit 100mph. Im not sure if your shifting fast enough or not. On some runs you are barely gaining 20mph in the last 1/8th. Just need some more practice.

Put your track rims on too, if you did not sell them.

the last owner sold the track rims, i only have 03 touring rims and 06 style rims.

I have to work on the launch for the 60 foot. ive only had the car for 2 months so i prob could shift a bit faster. I did shift fast enough to spin into 2nd, 3rd and 4th though.

The emergency brake should be OFF.

LOL! clearly didnt go to this thread: https://my350z.com/forum/drag/312917...listen-up.html

you need to work on that 60'. next time try doing a high slip, maybe even as high as 4000 rpm. if i can do a 3800 rpm slip in a fwd on street tires and run 2.1 60's consistently, you can too. just need to work on it. what were the conditions at the track? got a slip?

Just kidding of course.

a. 12 passes in 3 hours: That's about 1 run every 15 minutes. You are running a hot motor, and performance is getting worse not better. I prefer a 30 minute cool down between runs.

b. Like 90 percent of new racers your 60 foot times have room for improvement. There's no secret to a 2.0 second 60 foot time in street tires. It just takes practice.

c. I see that you are picking up 20 plus MPH in the second 660 feet. The car is running OK.

d. Reaction time does not effect ET. Take as long as you want at the light.

e. SPC camber kit: What is the camber setting?

a. I might have had 20 min between 2 of the runs. Some runs were 3 back to back. When I did stop I opened the hood but the motor was prob pretty hot. My friend that came with me made 7 passes, he let it cool. I wanted to get in as many runs as I could to improve my launches. Left time ill have to let her sit for awhile.

b. I am going to test and tune (myself) ha ha

c. good to hear

d. true, I few runs I didn’t car, others I wanted to leave as soon as I could because I knew it would be a tight race.

e. I am running what a local Nissan performance stop set it at. I bought a rear kit only not a front kit. They said they can’t get the front in spec but the rear is.

the data, how does it look?

Wow. Thanks for all the specs. A set-up for autocross or open road racing will include front tire tow and negative camber. This set-up favors both types of racing.

On the other side of the coin is drag raging. Drag racing does not favor front tire tow. Unfortunately a suspension set-up for racing and the street is always a compromise.

Ya, thats a pretty awesome suspension setup sheet. Really informative. I would love to do that with may car once my suspension is all setup.

C. I would see why your car is only picking up 20mph in the last 1/8th. Im not overly sure your intake is helping as much as hurting. I dont think the temperature was much of a factor for you in Canada, but perhaps what was the altitude where you are racing?

Newb Question: Why did you need to know the camber settings? Isn't he running on stock rims? So what significant effect did the camber effect have on his performance (if any)?

You are the new biggest d-bag on the forums with the weakest car. Take your garabage 14 sec M elsewhere. All you do is talk down to people and you never help anyone.

<--waits for this fool to start complaining about weather and DA. If it was so bad why did you even run that day?

OP-not bad for your first time out. Some suggestions...

*Take notes! Keep a log of your launch rpm, shift points, tire pressure, and comments on how that run went. This way you know what works and what doesnt.

*Lower tire pressure. On stockers I lowered to 27psi and they hooked mid 2.0's on my 2nd and 3rd run ever.

*Shift at redline every gear

*Run with 1/4 tank of gas

*Get rid of the AEM, it makes you slower than stock even though it sounds faster.

*Practice, again and again you will get it

Notes of the rpm is a good idea, I don’t really remember which was best for me, I am thinking around 2500 but not 100% sure

To be honest I went to the track last min, just planed that day after work. I didn’t check or have a tire pressure gauge with me. My friend was rushing me to leave.

As far as I remember I was at red line, if not I was within 200 rpm of the red on the gauge. I have never hit the rev limiter so I am not 100% sure how far I can take it.

I filled the tank to 1/2 20 min from the track, I wasn’t sure how much gas I would use while at the track and didn’t want to run out on the way back. I now know that I could prob get away with between 1/4 and 1/2 of gas.

AEM is no good? I know the engine has to work a little harder to suck the air up but it is colder and the pipe should be less restrictive.

To be honest I went to the track this time just for fun, I wanted to get the best time I could but didn’t really put in the attention needed to get a really good time. Now that I’ve got the first run out of my system I can put in some more attention next time.

side note, i am a big guy i weigh 270 pounds, so thats not helping my times

Thanks for everyone’s comments

Clearly less gas in your car is going to be better. With a gallon of gas weighing about 7lbs a gallon, its always a good idea to go with the least amount of gas possible, ofcourse without running out.

Go actually do some real research on your AEM. Its not good. Sell it. Dont go on AEM's site, or vendors site that sell AEM, look around. Search for dyno comparisons. Your way of thinking on how it works is a little off.

I weigh about 240lbs and I trapped 102+ in an 03 with similar mods.

Your welcome!

There's no need for name calling. If i remember correctly and i will quote for accuracy.. This is what he wanted to know..

And i answered his question directly. His 60 ft's sucked and he needed to fix them. Lessening his 60ft's will help his ET immensely.

As for my "Garbage". You know the M is based on the same platform the Z is right? So calling the M "garbage" is just like calling the Z garbage and there's nothing weak about a 100mph trap speed. **** the majority of pre Revups can't even hit 98mph stock. Again calling your fellow brethren slow. Very nice alberto.
