Default tire advice for occasional dragstrip visits?

I have an extra pair of 17x8+24 wheels I plan on using for occasional visits to the drag strip. I dont want an all out drag-slick, so I was thinking of maybe a drag-radial or a sticky tire one would use in auto-x or something like that.

Any suggestion on size and tire type for g35-coupe fender fitment?

245/45/17:
Kumho Escta V700 (Competition) 50 A A $189ea
Bridgestone RE-01R 140 A A $164ea
Sumitomo HTR Z 160 A A $66ea
Kumho Escat XS 180 AA A $150ea

255/40/17:
Sumitomo HTR Z 160 A A $79ea
Kumho Escta V700 (Competition) 50 AA A $198 ea
Yoko Advan A048 60 A A $257ea
Bridgestone Potenza RE070 140 A A $224ea
Advan Neova AD07 180 AA A $238 ea
Bridgestone RE-01R 180 A A $220ea

275/40 (is that too big):
Sumitomo HTR Z 160 A A $88ea
BFGoodrich G-Force TA Drag Radial-2 0 BC $187ea
Kumho Escta V700 (Competition) 50 AA A $214ea

I didnt include the Nitto Drag Radial because I have heard a lot of neg comments about it, but if you think it'd be better than a sticky competition tire or street radial voice it up. I'll probably manage maybe 4-6 times out to the strip with these tires and they will only ever be used for going to and from the strip.

I would go with a BFG TA DR in 225/45/17, as I think the 275/40 is too big for an 8" wheel. These can be driven to/from the track on your 8" wheel without issue. Just lower the pressure, do a good burnout, and go. All the other street tires are worthless if you are trying to get grip-on-launch. If you were interested in sourcing a set of 9" wheels, then you could go with the 275-sized tire.

I didnt think to go a size smaller, I guess in drag, smaller with higher grip is better than wider with less grip, makes sense...price on those TA/DR's isnt too bad either, thanks!

If you run a taller tire, you're 60' time usually won't be as good, but you'll have a higher trap speed at the finish line.
I run a taller tire to get a faster trap.

But that is just my preference and opinion.

The taller sidewall on the DR will allow for better weight transfer to the rear, aiding in grip, and overall ET.

appreciate the advice guys

general exclaims really aren't comparable to what I was looking for, same for the standard Nitto 555. I was looking for Drag Radials or a sticky R compound type tire. The Nitto tire I was trying to avoid was the 555-DR which I've never heard a good thing about.

265/40 BFG DR will work fine on an 8" rim.

...and it's too big. "Fitting" on is one thing, having it fit on snugly, safely, and without much sidewall bulge is a different story. I know I don't want my sidewalls all bulged out when trying to get a good drag launch. You don't need a big tire at this HP level, just something sticky. There are guys that cut 1.5x 60' times with 600rwhp on a 255/50 MT ET SR.
