Default I went to one of the slower tracks tonight...

I knew it wouldn't be a great night, but wanted to give it a shot anyway.

A cold front and low pressure, along with a LOT of rain was moving in. There was a nasty cross wind, the humidity was going up, as the rain was trying to arrive. I drove into the rain, not long after leaving the track. The temp was hovering around 58, with the humidity around 60% and rising.

My kids were off from school too, so I figured it could be a family outing. I never realized how much I have rubbed off on them. They absolutely love the track!

The rain held off though, and I got in a few runs, in between the break downs and TNT cars.

The car was running strong, but launching hard caused the clutch pressure to drop when I upshifted, causing a bit of slippage, especially in 3rd and 4th.

I was able to overcome the pedal drop by waiting for the second light to raise the rpms, and then drop the hammer on the 3rd. This kept it from heating up too much and falling to the floor, but it didn't stop the slippage on the upshifts, especially on the harder runs.

This is also Carolina Dragway, which has great hook, but an uphill climb on the second half of the track, so don't let the traps fool you. The car was running very well, even with the conditions as they were.

Here is a video of my single best pass, and pic of my two best slips. Given the conditions, I was happy. Listen and you will hear the slippage.

Very nice! Especially for a DA of 64 feet!

wow amazing runs.
Any thing you plan on doing with your car (mods, break other records)? And what rpm do you launch from on the best run?

Revs at launch, tire pressure, technique

I launched at about 4K this time, bringing up the revs and dropping the clutch quickly, while feeding the gas, to avoid heating the slave so much the pedal pressure dropped. Honestly, I didn't check the tire pressure. It was set at 35 lbs, when I got my oil changed about a week ago.

I also did a couple of quick tire cleaning burn outs, before pulling up to the line.

Keeping it stock, until I can break a 12.9. I would love to have the time to run at the better tracks, hopefully soon.

Humidity doesn't affect the DA's anywhere near as much as temps & elevation does.

And since you weren't having traction issues (1.9 60ft), I fail to see the logic of a slow track for that particular event

Good runs & impressive driving! Though, conditions were still ideal.

I think he was referring to his trap speed when he said slow - could be a result of a slightly shorter track(?). Regardless, the DA was 64 and he's a spectacular drag racer, so it really makes no difference in anything as far as I can see.

Carolina Dragway is not an ideal track for setting a record, due to the latter part of the track going uphill, which affects the 1/4 trap and e.t. If you were to compare time slips with the other tracks I mention below, you can see how the first 1/8th is great, but the second half starts to fall off a little, especially by the 1/4. Add the fact that low pressure was moving in, moisture, and a sometimes nasty crosswind was adding to the difficulty, conditions were not ideal for a "record".

Ideal record weather for me would be SGMP, Silver Dollar Raceway, Alabama International Dragway or even MGMP during cool dry weather. Even Carolina Dragway would be possible for a 12.9-13.0 during cooler drier weather, so yes, I was very happy, just wasn't expecting to do that well.

So, when can we expect a 12 second run from you? You're probably the best hope for one, if such a thing is even possible.

Do you have any factual proof that the track goes uphill or is it just hearsay?
It sounds weird to me that they would build a drag strip that goes uphill. They used to say that Atco dragway in NJ is downhill but that was boloney.

"Covered the IHRA Div. 2 Bracket Finals here twice. Superb facility. New Compulink with all new wiring, new tower. 1/4-mile track, but steep incline at finish, usually run 1/8th.
