Default Drag Racing Safety Regulations

Now that drag racing season is upon us, I figured we need an up to date thread on the Safety Regulations that are enforced by the track.

Last weekend I went to the strip, and ALMOST didn't pass tech inspection because I didn't have a driveshaft loop installed. I was able run, I just had to promise to not use the bottle.
That got me pretty curious as to what other regulations I will have to abide by.

Here is a list of regulations that are enforced by my local track:

Cars with slicks must have a drive shaft loop located within six inches of the front u-joint.

Helmets required on cars running 14.00 or quicker on the 1/4 mile. or 8.50 or quicker on the 1/8 mile. Snell 80 or newer recommended.

Roll bar required on vehicles running 11.49 or quicker 1/4 mile or 7.50 1/8 mile. Roll bar is recommended at 11.99 or quicker 1/4 mile. Roll cage required on vehicles running 9.50 or faster 1/4 mile or 6.00 1/8 mile.

Seat belt required in all cars. Five point harness required in any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker 1/4 mile or 7.50 1/8 mile. Five point harness recommended at 11.99 or quicker 1/4 mile.

Nitrous bottles must have blow-down tube installed if mounted in cabin of vehicle.

I'd like to hear from you guys that are running 11's and faster. Do you fully abide by these rules, or do you try and sneak around tech inspection?

I do plan on fabbing up a driveshaft loop, but what are the odds that I will break the OEM carbon driveline before something else would break?

Discuss.

Those seem like some pretty strict regulations, the track I go to doesnt even inspect the cars. Interesting things to keep in mind though if I ever get out of south carolina.

Not all tracks are similar. Some dont care, others your like yours are retarded. A driveshaft loop on a non fast car? LMAO

The center support brace would act as one in a Z, if anything it would slide out the back and not cause the car to pogo.

Ive been kicked out due to no:

roll bar, safety harness, fire jacket, gloves. I went with just a helmet and ran 11.1....oops

I mentioned to the inspector that it had mutliple crossmembers that wouldn't allow the driveshaft to hit the groud and vault the car. His reasoning on why it had to be a full loop, and not a crossmember, is because the driveshaft can smash it's way through the floor and cause injury to the driver.

That may be the case on full blown drag cars, but I don't see that happening to the Z...
Either way, I'm going to rig up a loop so that it will be legal by NHRA standards.

Have you not been to the track since you ran that 11.1? I'm hoping I don't get kicked out the next time I go. I'm only looking for low 12's, but with a dyno tune and a little more bottle, I could possible see 11's.
