thinking about weight reduction but cant be sure
ok Ive been reading about how much some things weigh. i am thinking about taking my spare tire and jack etc out of the back to maybe lighten the car by 50lbs. My question is am i really gonna benefit from this? i have a base so no lsd. i know the weight reduction helps with power to weight ratio but am i gonna get a better time with it or without it? im questioning it because thats 50lbs that could be putting more weight on my rear tires for better traction. whats your guys take on this?
well my z i have only had at the track one time. i spun alot because i had bad tires. my only mod was an intake. when i go on sat i have new tires, intake, short throw, and test pipes. im hoping to tap the 13s. my best time when i went to the track was 14.225 at 99

Don't concern yourself with weight now. Run consistent 13.XX seconds first. Then you can start taking stuff out of the car.
When I went to the track last time, I had an AAM single exit exhaust, pop charger, and AAM test pipes. I pulled all the interior out of the back part, spare tire, jack, all floor mats, and passenger seat. Like that, the car wieghed 3065lbs. I ran 13.7 @ 103 that night.
Stock, the car wieghed 3200lbs.
When going to the track, I find that it's worth it to pull some stuff out. The entire point of running is to be as fast as possible. It took me ten minutes to take all that stuff out. Wieght is the opposition of horsepower. Removing wieght is the same as adding power.

^if you could drive better you wouldnt have to drive a rattle can to the track to run 13.7...I ran 13.7 @ 101mph stock my first time out.

what year and model was your car? what track? what was temp? what was elevation? 13.7 is very rare for a stock z unless it is an hr
That would be because most people can't drive at the level required to do that - the car has the power to do it all day long (assuming reasonable DA)... Drag racing is easy, drag racing well is hard.

i understand that but the 350z isnt capable of 13.7 at every track. there are alot of variables
Only did 3 runs stock, in this order:
13.80, 13.77, 13.86 @ 100-101mph
There will always be people who can laugh at magazine times, because they are so easy to beat
2003 Track, about 70 degrees in April @ Capitol Raceway in MD, not even the "fast ones" we have here. Did this in 2003

Which is exactly why I said with a reasonable DA. I'd say any DA under about 2500' and you can expect a good driver to have one running in the 13s, and DAs under about 1000-1500' you could probably pull off 13.6-13.7 if you can really drive.
ZCOUPE, your thread has been officially high-jacked...
as far as weight reduction, i am getting into the process right now, keep me updated as to what you plan to do to shave weight. I'll be starting a thread soon on my process.
