Default can someone help?

i do not own a 350z, im attempting to help my friend from making a stupid move.

he owns a convertible 350z with tt pushing around 600hp. he doesnt get the concept that you have to have a better rim and tire set up in order to get the power to the ground. so im forcing him to buy drag street radials and rims.

ive been searching on this forum for a few hours but havent found any direct answers. What would be the best set up for drag racing? it is an 04 6 speed z, lowered about an inch i do believe. It does not have brembo brakes but aftermarket rotors, i do not believe they are larger rotors.

i am thinking a good 17in rim set up, with mickey thompsons. I can post a picture of the car if necessary. i just dont want to see a car that he dumped 50k into go down the drain cause he thinks evos and stis are better when i know they are not.

thanks. a stock z has 235/50 tires, but that guy purchased a 275/40 series, is there a reason why he went shorter and not taller?

so i guess another question is, how wide can the rims go? if stock is 17x8, would purchasing a rim that is 17x9.5 be to wide?

sorry if im asking generic questions that people probably ask often.

I'm clueless, but keep asking the questions...someone else may need the answers too.

He went 275/40 which is about the same diameter as stock, so technically not shorter. The guy probably did this to keep his gearing the same. If you go with a taller tire, the gearing in turn will become longer.

A 9.5" wheel isn't too wide, hell for serious drag racing, I'd go wider.

9.5 fits 275's perfectly, that's what i'm running.

for some serious traction (which he'll need with the 600HP that you claim he has) I'd go as wide as 305-315...

i'd like to see what time he runs with that power.

this kind of ignorance should stay to honda forums.

whats the smallest a rim can go? 16? i dont want him to buy a set of rims and they cant fit.

so a suggestion of 17x9.5 with a 305/40 drag radial is the overall concensus?

or, you can also call up your local Firestone, Bridgestone shop etc. and ask them what works best?
