Default 1/8 Mile Drag Racing Results...Less Wheel Hop w/ SPL Rear

Another night of 1/8 mile drag racing. Yes, 1/8 mile. 1/4 tracks are very limited here in SoCal, so 1/8 mile or nothing.

I did O.K. Not my best. Trap speeds could have been better.

The only change I had was the REAR SPL differential bushing. I have yet to install the front bushings. We spent too much time trying to get the stock bushing out and the new one in and didn't want to bother touch the hammer for the rest of the night.

I had very bad wheel hop before. To the point where shifting to second was VERY dangerous. The OEM bushing was dry, torn and moved very easily.

With just the rear bushing, wheel hop has been reduced to about 60-70%. Car still wants to whip it's tail out upon the 1-2 shift, but hopefully that can be fixed with the front bushings.

I have an Osiris tune, but I just got my engine replaced for oil consumption from Riverside Infiniti. New motor feels strong, but needs to be re-tuned for the new motor. Has about 2k miles on the new motor. Still consuming oil, but that's a different story. Feels stronger on the "stock" map.

Best run of the night:
Reaction: .603
60ft: 2.200
MPH: 80.21
E.T.: 9.070

Mods:
5/16 Spacer
Test Pipes
X02 Exhaust with Magnaflow Resonated X-Pipe
Osiris Tune
Nankang NS-2 245/40/19 30 PSI

With all that said, how much time is the wheel hop robbing me? It looks bad in the video, but it's a lot more controllable and less intrusive now.

You can use some new tires. That second gear shift is crazy on the wheel hop. I have 275/35/18s and I barely get wheel hop on the 1-2 shift.

They are actually pretty new. About 1k miles on them. They actually bite better than the old Michelin PS2's I had at launch. On corners, I miss my old PS2's.

My old PS2's would simply spin, no matter what I did. They are great on corners, but they didn't bite when it came to drag racing for me.

True.
Be careful though. I remember seeing pictures of a destroyed differential casing from wheel hop like that on this forum. With the solid bushing, alot more harshness is being transfered to the case and since the casing is brittle, it can crack.

What springs are you running? Sway bar setting?

New doesn't always mean "new". Freshly bought etc.

Some meaty tires might help with the problem.?.?

Not to thread jack but
I went out to the 1/8ths Friday night in Silver Sc I had a huge problem with launching. Im running Hankook vs12 evo tires and would spin on my launches every time. Im currently re-adjusting my camber , but ive got a set of nankings sitting around.
Anyways nice launches!

It's strange.....even on street tires I never really had any wheel hop. Slip doesn't look to poor for street tires.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm running stock springs (revised) and OEM sways.

I may take a break from drag racing until I put more of an effort into fixing the wheel hop issue.

When, I first started taking it to the track, wheel hop was never an issue. Major wheel hop didn't start until 3 track sessions ago. I'm afraid it may be more than just the differential bushings. Any ideas? The wheel hop issue started getting worse gradually. If you see my videos on youtube, I rarely had wheel hop. The issue came out like demons when I took out to Sacramento Raceway on a super sticky day in December.

Im not exactly sure what it may be, but taking a break from racing till you figure it out is a good idea.

Something I noted, when I went from stock (2005) sway bars to cusco, my wheel hop nearly disapeared. I now only get wheel hop when its cold outside.
