Default Drag wheel & tire combo

So I'm going up to the drags this up coming sunday and because of the short notice I don't really have the time to get wheels shipped to me. I'm looking around locally for something that will fit my application. What are you guys running for a wheels and tire combo. The more info you can give me on your set up the better.

I've read the rx7 wheels were a popular choice for us Z's but haven't found any locally yet. Also, I think I'm pretty set on Mickey Et Streets because of how well they hook while still not putting as much stress on the drivetrain.

17" mustang wheels work as well.

Thanks for the tip. They seem to be more common and can be found with drag radials much more often.

Any 17 inch wheel with the same bolt pattern and offset will work. There is no ideal width. You can put a 265 mm ET Street on a 9.0 inch wheel. That should be plenty of rubber for your torque.

Never mind. I thought this was important. Important enough to say “thanks” or simply reply.

I was hoping to get some more responses of what people were running. I'm looking for a drag set up, so just a 17" wheel really isn't the ideal size. Its too late now since I already had the races this past sunday and was unable to get the right wheels in time, and as I expected hooking up was my problem with my 19" Volks. I'm considering just getting everything shipped now and will likely be going with 15x8 rears and 17x4 fronts since I'm not longer in a rush.

Now we're getting somewhere. Thanks for the responses guys. I didn't realize a 15 would fit on the fronts.

only if you have a 03/04 non-brembo or swap to 03/04 non-brembo brakes/rotors

AFter that the brakes/rotors got bigger.

you can still buy calipers and rotors from a 03/04 and mount them up to fit 15's.

I can tell you last year on my 18s with 285 40 nto5r tires got one pass before I blew both axlesi was at 484whp and had a crappy 2.0 60ft and ran a 11.95 @125 the event is just a win lose setup . I can tell you the new tire setup is way better for launching the extra sidewall made a huge difference.

I'm already running dss pro axles so my worries about breakage are lessened.

Stick with tall sidewall bias ply tires (e.g. 26" tire on 16" or smaller rims) and you shouldn't be breaking axles. I have a very consistent 1.6-1.7 60ft on ET streets w/RX7 FD wheels and have yet to have any stock axle issues.
