Default Whats your launch technique??

I have a track model and when I had my 245 Bridgestones in the rear I could launch it good.
All I did was Blip the throttle to 2500, pop the clutch and then floor it after alittle pedal modulation. It worked well.
Now I have 255 by 40 Continental Conti Sport Contacts, and hooking up is hard! I cant dump the clutch at any RPM or all I get is wheelspin till I back off the throttle.

Do you all think part of the problem is that I am running 39 cold in the rears? or maybe is it the smaller diameter? with 255 vs 245, I figure Id hook up better. What gives?

Maybe its my technique, How are you guys launching for races?
Describe your moves!

In the cold I usually dump at about 2K then modulate the throttle till I hook. Works well for me. In warmer weather I slip it at 3K...gives me consistent 2.0 60ft's on the stock RE040's, I have S-03's now and they seem to do much better....

how do you slip the clutch at 3K? i wanna start practicing slipping the clutch, i experiment w/ dropping the clutch, but get different 60ft's everytime, slipping it seems to be the best way...

I get consistent 0-60 times of 5.7 (will be better when motor fully breaks in).

Rev car up while in 1st. Hold at about 2500-2900RPMs. Feather clutch out while giving gas. I can do this in sub 30 degree weather and get NO tire spin in 1st gear (2nd gear goes sideways though ) Takes practice. But remember, FEATHER dont DUMP the clutch

durobred. Slipping=riding. Ride the clutch from the stop a little bit

I'm a highway racer, but unfortunately I have to race a few people from a stop to get them off my back.

I can't launch worth ****. And a lot of the terms people use to explain a good launch lose me sometimes. So by "slipping the clutch"... Just rev up to a lil under 3k with the clutch all the way in, then let off the clutch quickly and mess with the gas pedal til I get traction? is this correct?

I'm going to the track tomorrow - if someone could set me straight on this before I embarass myself there tomorrow, that'd be great

I'm not sure but I believe what you are describing sounds more like dumping the clutch.

I believe slipping the clutch requires you to consistently adjust the clutch in symphony with the gas in order to get traction.

My launching technique is different from everybody else's I guess since no one has mentioned it so far. I don't even rev my engine up. I just wait till the moment to go and then apply gas and release clutch in harmony as to get traction from the very start (goal but does not always happen that way).

I just got home from the dragstrip! Oh man, that was fun. As expected, I sucked. My first run was 16.2@89, then 15.8@90, my last one was 15.5@96. At least I improved each time. I was way to delicate on my launch. I also didn't burn my tires enough, had some wheelspin problems. There's a ton I need to work on, but that's the fun part. I can attest fully. It's very addicting. I plan on going back next weekend and improve more. Hopefully, I'll get it down next time around.

man high 15s in a high 13 second car? Practice practice practice. A bad run should be a mid/high 14. Not 15s.

Start launching at 3k or a little below. Remeber, momentum is the key

I suggested feathering the clutch to some people in another thread. Although, in my opinion, it is a superior technique for launching our cars, it should be mentioned that it is pretty rough on the clutch.

350zluvr,
First of all, where did you get that pic? It's beautiful! On the streets I have tried different launching techniques, including the one you mentioned. I think feathering the clutch is the best technique, but I don't have any times to prove it. Do you have any times that might show that your method is a good one(I don't need a slip, your word is good enough)? If so, your method would be the easiest on the clutch, I would assume.

I found that pic on alink that someone posted on here a long time ago. Thank you, btw.

I don't race my car often and have yet to take it to a track so my method works for me and seems like that kind of launch would be more productive and less destructive. You don't waste time spinning your wheels and at the same time you save tires and tranny.

I got wheel hop when I went. I was running, pretty consistently, 14.7XX with traps at about 95 to 99. My 60' times were about 2.4 or so. This was my first time EVER drag racing, in any car. I have stock Enthusiast Roadster with 6MT. Any important tips on saving time?

Get your 60ft down and you'll hit low 14s. Practice launching, do a burnout etc...
