With your mods, you should be around 14.0 - 14.1 and maybe high 13's. Depends on the track and conditions of course.
maybe have Val drive next time???
I don't think I was losing traction... It was my first time so I was too excited to pay much attention.

1st Run 2nd Run
Reaction +1.213 +0.394
60 foot 2.342 2.206
330 ft 6.394 6.267
1/8 ET 9.675 9.552
1/8 MPH 75.37 75.88

I'm a complete newb at this so help me out. Valkyrie was in the stands looking good and screaming "dats my baby daddy!" when it was my go

Somewhere in this thread I have how I launch. Looks like you were stunned in the first run (reaction time, I did the same thing.)
60' on second run looks like you should have been closer to 14.3 or so.
Are you in manual mode and are you shifting at 6500? With traction control etc off? Generally you should be losing traction like crazy even from an idle when you launch with stock tires. I was spinning all through 1st and part way through 2nd before I changed tires and launching technique.
A lot of it is practice and doing things exactly the same way when you get on to it.
It's a rush isnt it???

I hope not. You can try another track if there is one close enough to get to. You can turn a 14.7 at one place and a 14.1 at another drag strip. I have seen that before.

Not losing traction though puzzles me, particularly if you have the stock tires. I think we have similar mods and with stock tires and I was coming out of the hole sideways, I was spinning so much.

Your 60' looks like you are not losing a bunch of traction though.
It appears that your launch is decent and your acceleration is dropping off in the higher end. What rpm do you shift? What gear are you in when you hit the finish? You should be trapping 97-99mph. When I first started I had some 14.7 ish times, but I was still trapping around 98.

My guess would be it is your shift points (if you have T/C off and are not in D) are off or your mods may not be working well together. Maybe the ECU is not working with the mods??

With only 2 runs it is harder to figure out, but if you PM 12secz he can probably tell you what might be going on.

I don't use manual mode, just power brake and go. I'm not sure of the gear I was in at the finish, I'll go again next Thursday night and try again.

Geez man! I had to drag it out of you. That is your problem.
Use the manual mode, take traction control off if you have it and VDC if you have it. Wind it up to 6500 in 1st, then 2nd etc until you cross the finish line with your 14 flat 100 mph.
I am usually just hitting 6500 in third when I go across the finish line. Some times I shift into 4th, but rarely. I can g-tech 13.7, but at the track I run 14.1 /99mph consistantly. Once I get the traction tightened up I will be in high 13's somewhere and so will you with your cats.

In manual mode you will see a tremendous difference and will no doubt experience some traction problems. And finally let Val drive and you just cheer her on from the stands.

She hit a concrete pillar in the parking deck where we work. It sounded a lot worse than it was. There was about 1.5 inches of paint missing and a small crease above the front tire.

And I couldn't ***** at her because she was crying.

Now as far a racing on Thursday night, I plan on resetting the ECU, using racing gass on 1/8 a tank, taking out all mats, CD's, gun, spare, jack, and tools, lowering the pressure in the rear tires (what PSI should I use?) and power braking. Any other ideas?

They always use that crying crap.

Try 26# hot to start out with. You said you are not breaking loose, so I would not lower it too much. Once you start in manual shift you might be spinning the tires
though. Read all the other tips in this tread.

Oh yeah.........don't eat anything until after you race. That makes the car lighter too. I'm racing tommorow night.

26 lbs of tire pressure when you have been driving for a while. If you wait and the tire gets cold it changes the effect.

Here is what I did tonight at Infineon. I only got one practice and one comp run. I broke out in comp. with a dial in of 14.10. tire pressure 25# hot
r/t .601
60' 2.003
330ft. 5.576
1/8 9.005
1000' 11.701
1/4 14.003

going into a small head wind. Humidity 57

Next time I'm trying 23-24# tire pressure, since I was still breaking loose a bit in first, but no second spinning this time.

Helmet time!!

My friend pussed out tonight in his practically stock WRX. No slips, I'll have to wait till next Thursday night. He's actually worried that I'll beat him. I thought he would have me for sure!!

fowlman, those are good times. here's my best tonight:

R/T: .8309
60ft: 2.2345
330ft: 6.0755
1/8 e/t: 9.2520
1/8 mph: 77.83
1/4 e/t: 14.2820
1/4 mph: 98.19

i know the r/t sucks, but i'm usually in the high 500's. i'd redlighted on my last run, so i was a little slow this time. i trap pretty consistantly in the 14.3's, 98.5 +/-. we'll see how the numbers change when i put on some nismo headers

oh, some other stuff:

-gotta do a good burnout, or i'll be spinning all the way past 60ft. i still get a lot of spin despite my best efforts.

-i launch at 2000-2200 rpms with the TCS off. i don't disconnect the brake fuze.

-i let the AT do the work through the first 2 gears for consistancy, then i shift into manual. like you said, i cross 1/4 in 3 right on the edge of 6700. i've got to shift up to 4 right as i cross usually to avoid hitting the rev limiter (that sucks).

You are doing most of what I am doing but I start in manual mode and keeep it there. In that 14.0 run I roasted the tires more than I usually do. Next time I'm going to cook them even more, since I still had some wheelspin. I knew I had a good run going and didn't care if i broke out. The guy I raced had a 16.20 dial and I had a 14.10, so I had to give him a pretty good head start. I flew by him at the 1/8th and I could have coasted over the finish, but I knew I had a good run going and thought it might even be a high 13, so I just kept my foot in it. I'm the first Z to trophy at Infineon, so I would rather just get the best time I can at this point. I need a 13 more than a trophy, I have lots of them (with non Z cars) If it had not have been my first comp run i might have slowed down just to stay in the running, but the car was feeling good
Try starting out in 1st, 2nd etc.
btw mmy trap was 98.43, slowest of the night for me.

hraes,
are you going to forget all this advice by the time you get to the drag strip???

Buying a Nissan 350Z = $31k

Getting a shoe-polished # on your rear window = $12

Hot dog and a soda at the track = $6

Knowing your friend in the WRX can't talk **** for a few weeks... = Priceless!
