Stock 6MT G35 1/4 times
Somewhat dissapointed, but:
65-69 degrees, sunny
Abs barometer 30.15 - 30.69
1) 15.17@96.5/ 2.63 60'
2) 14.74@95.77/ 2.36 60'
3) 14.89@95.83/ 2.51 60'
4) 14.64@96.74/ 2.36 60'
5) 14.47@95.42/ 2.27 60'
Runs 1-3 I bogged down off the line. Run 4, I experienced BAD wheel hop that scared the chit out of me. Run 4 was the best, I feathered the clutch, got some wheel spin and a split second wheel hop.... then I was off!
This car has a LOT more in it! It is simply amazing when you are flying down the strip, ripping through the gears... there's nothing like barking 4th!!. My goal was/is 14.2 stock.
How did I do/will I get there?

You need to practice your launch, that is what is holding you back--->try to hit a 2.0 60ft, with some practice it is attainable. Lower your tire pressure to 27 psi, works good for me. As far as your trap, it is low. Shift at redline, and practice shifting faster...you can always improve.
I have a 6MT sedan G.
your trap IS low. at firebird raceway in phoenix (1243 feet), I trapped high 98 and low 99 mph. On a red light run I hit 101 mph once. all stock. I ran 14.4@99 when I was stock. That was my PB
Now I am running high 99's to low 101's with very minimal mods. I am consistently 14.3 now instead of consistent 14.6's before.
My PB is 13.89 with a 2.09 60', hitting the 2.0 60 is much harder in a G than a Z if you have the open differential. It can be done but is harder. I think you need to work on your shifting as the couple extra tenths you are using shifting is keeping your trap speed down. Look at your 1/8th mile speed. you should be 75-77 mph. If you are, then your 3-4 shift is slow. if not your 2-3 and 1-2 shifts are suspect

Work on your launch. Its all in the launch. I'm running a 14.2@99 in my AV6 6spd. Ofcourse thats the best stock time out there but shows what is possible. Since I'm fairly new here....I'm not trying to start a flame war here as I love the G35 and know that it is 'capable' of beating an Accord in the 1/4 mile.
Hmmm, I just typed a response but I guess its in a blackhole somwhere. Yeah, seems like you need to work on your launch (easier said than done) and shift at or past redline to get those traps up. I'm trapping at 98-99mph in a stock 6spd Accord. That isn't the norm, but does show the cars potential.

Hey Redline6mt, I just noticed you are in Nashville. I'm in the Huntsville, AL area. I always run at the track at Steele, AL. It would probably be a good drive for you, but is one of the faster tracks anywhere around here.

My wife is from Huntsville and I will be there Thanksgiving weekend. I have heard of Steele, but had never been.
Good job on your 14.2 stock run....very impressive.
How late is Steele open to (month)?

From what I could remember of my shifts....I thought they were clean and crisp, but maybe not fast enough. Maybe barking 3rd and 4th was a sign of sitting on the clutch too long?...
BTW - I shifted all gears at or after redline..

If you're going to be in Huntsville over the holidays...I'd love to meet up. Just for car talk and what not. PM or let me know somehow (this is my s/n on yahoo mail too).
Well, I tried to attach the timeslip for that run but the file is too big. Oh well, here is the video, it only shows the time for a sec so you have to watch carefully.

Are you sure you're not accidentially letting off the gas before the end of the 1/4 mile...I ran into a Z guy at the track a while back that was trapping 95-97mph and I came to find out after riding with him down the track that he was letting off the gas about 100 feet before the final timing lights because he thought he had already passes the finish line. When he stayed in it until well after the last lights his traps went into the 100-101 range.
I personally don't know any other reason that a G35 coupe would be trapping that much slower in great conditions like that unless you're running @ 2500+ ft of elevation.

Thanks. Steele is open year around. Thats what I love about it. It stays open all year so you can run now while its cold. They have test and tune Friday from 8pm to 1am and on Tuesdays from 6pm to 11pm. I usually go on Friday nights, however I may go for Tuesday (tomorrow) since the weather seems about perfect.

You know....as stupid as it may sound, you may be right on letting off early. I remember letting off a little after passing the time board.. I just don't know what else it could be? I know my launches were bad, but I truely believe my shifts were there. I really couldn't imagine shifting too much faster without powershifting.
I guess there's always room for improvements....the next trip to the track will be taken more seriously...

Yeah, 100% stock including rims. I had a little less than 1/4 tank.

if you are barking 3rd and fourth, you are probably shifting too late. what happens then, is the torque peak has died away and then you go right back into the meat of the powerband causing a huge increase in torque immediately. it is a fine line, as you want to go slightly past or just before redline. just remember, your stock tach could be off by as much as 100-200 rpm, as there is some delay due to the car's LAN network comms and errors in calibration. you will also notice your speedo doesn't react immediately either.
each car is just a little bit different and all advice we are giving will need to be tailored to your car.
your 1/8th's MPH are right there so it would have to be the 3-4 shift if anything.
Seems like it would be an easy shift, buy you may not be smooth enough???
