base model? or doesnt matter
So I'm coming from a 240 that i built strictly for drifting and sold last month. I'm looking to get a car I can daily and slide at the local events.
My question is that I've seen some people say to get a base model Z if I want to drift the car. I'm just wondering why that is?
Doesn't the Kaaz LSD only work with the VLSD halfshafts and cant the VDC or whatever just be disabled?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

The base model does not come with:
Lsd
Tc
Cc
Hids "03-05"
if u decide to purchase a base model you have the option to always add lsd.

I have heard rumors that the VDC never really turns off, but in my experience it has not proven true. I have the touring model and it slides just fine. Wider tires really improve the grip, and there is some understeer under acceleration from the weight transfer. With normal size tires, it shouldn't be an issue for drifting.
As for the axles, the Nismo LSD costs more but comes with the axle stubs.
For the savings, you would probably do well to get a base model and a Nismo LSD. I think the base models weigh less, too.

for drifting, I would say just get the base model then put in a Nismo LSD and you will drift your Z like you stole it, don't spend those $ in other trim model, cause you don't really need those TCS and VDC this kinda stuff.

OR you can just pick up an early model 2005 or late 2004 used BASE model.
Probably the best bang for your buck since it is the lightest 350z void of all the extra sound deadening and steering assist they added in 06. That cuts close to 200 lbs off the average 06 model.
It's not too hard to come by some HID's or a beefier LSD with the money you save.

base model, you will have enough of a headache if you left foot brake with the throttle cut and abs... don't complicate it with the more expensive upper models. the nismo lsd pops right in and has everything, the other diffs are missing the stub shafts which you will need, ie kaaz, cusco, ect.

hazardous conditions? ive slided my track model Z many times with my vdc turned off and it never kicked back in. you have to turn it off and slide or peel out till it says SLIP permanently which means it is off completely. id say if your going for the cheapest route, get a 03 base and just add a hid kit and a 2way. i opted for the track model because it came with the HIDs and the Brembos
