uh, mabey your Z isnt running right then.with my Z, first gear will break loose easily but it is to short a gear. second gear is optimal drifting because with my open diff i only need to clutch kick and oversteer and it stayz sideways.third gear however, requires wieght transfer combined with clutchkicking and once it breaks loose as long as the rpms are high enough it will stay sideways, but if you are gonna do a third gear drift with an open diff you got to be going pretty fast to get the rpms where they needto be in order for the clutch kick to be affective and trust me it is damn scary to drift in third lol! hope this helps but if you need more info then just pm me.

I was discussing this topic (open diff drifting) with a guy who is pretty good at it at the last event, and he initiates with the E-brake. It was working well for him. Our ebrakes aren't that great, but they work for something like a 3rd gear initiation.

you can initiate with the handbrake, but there really is no need to. i slide my z around with the crappy VLSD on the track and at events with just breaking and throttle control. theres tons of different ways to do it.

lol, i was just curious as to your general technique. I personally don't clutchkick because i'm scared for my tranny, but e-brake and feinting has worked for me... in the rain. still, yeah I can't get even remotely sideways in first, inside wheel just goes whee!! on those stupid potenza stockers..

feint is fine, but dont bother burning your ebrake. your ebrake should only be used if you can get enough oversteer in the middle of a drift. and im definatly not talking about pulling it up more than 2-4 inches if you pulling it higher then that then get ready replace some parts. the technique i use most is lets say your coming into a larger banking turn maybe 180 deg. turn (half circle). If im coming in at around 65-70 Mph then i brake for maybe roughly 2-3 seconds about 100 or so feet from the turns entry point. you should feel all the wieght of the car go forward and that when you wanna get on the gas a little. once entering the actual turn ill sidestep the gas, a little just before letting off the break. depending on how you like to control your throttle will depend really on how much you brake and steer in and accelerate though... so you cant purely go off my explanation. get on the gas some more and control the drift with braking and gas. make sure to accelerate out of the turn.... that goes for any exit.

your slip angle is going to be dependent on your style to its hard to maintain big angles at first so just stay in your comfort zone.

im sorry if that explanation is vague but not everyone is the same, nor has the same setup for suspension and tires etc.

also sorry for any typing errors i may have had.

For me , NA is better , I'll bet an SC would be fine. I leanred to drift in my R32 GTS-T and i sucked , well still do. When i play with the Z in fairly stock trim its so much easier to control than the turbo car was.

Default 2 cents

I added cold air intake and the delay cause me to spen out each time.
i put the short ram back on and drifted like a pro.
i like the sound and top end of the cold air so i put it back on and spent about a hour in a closed parking lot and just like that im a pro again.
well i didnt spen out anymore

short answer practice what you got tell it works before you try other things.

Default hey z04- please read

Rap music was a fad too. Now even Chevy has TI (He is a hip hop rap artist) doing commercials for them.
You may not be open to alot of things but the more you hate on things the bigger it gets.
remember when they tried to ban the N.W.A. (1989), now you have every body wanting to be "stright out of compton"
I dont like to talk sh*t so what ever racing you like to do let me know. we can line em up or better idea, follow your nascar buddies and challange a drifter.

It is all in the driving. You should be able to slide the Z with every possible technique in the book, no problems, hands down!!! The Z has more than enough power stock to do crazy gosu ****. Because the Z already has butt loads of power, a SC with moderate tuning would probably be the best FI for drifting because of the predictable/linear power curve.

Keep in mind, my buddy with a miata (only suspension stuff, no power mods at all (not even an exhaust or intake)) with 110 whp can slide his car better than most of my sr20 friends. Yeh, it takes him several e-pulls and clutch kicks to stay sideways through a bend, but his angle is way larger.

stock Z is sufficient.

if you know anything about how a car feels when drifting you know that a quick response is a must. you dont need crazy power for drifting.

I would defenetly say a supercharger is beeter than a turbo in a VQ35. specially a roots type. quicker response. ppl that say turbo turbo turbo are just fanboys of the sport and probly dont even know what an lsd is.

AEM's D1 350z driven by Tanner Foust is Turbocharged. Just about every car in D1 is Turbocharged. I for one, vote Turbo.
