so i kinda saw this coming...at first the diff was perfect...i could slide around in 2nd all day, then i started noticing after the diff got hot it would peg leg if i dumped it in 2nd from a stop. I figured the dif was just over heating and getting old...ive had VLSDs in my S13 before, no biggie. Then i started worrying when powering over, the diff started peg legging. Now the diff wont work at all, if i jump on the power early thru a turn itll just light up the inside tire. Also from a stop it just spins one tire
I just had the car aligned and also changed the diff fluid to synthetic from the dealership about 5k ago everything was perfect but now im convinced that my diff is dead. what do i do now? Will the dealership cover this under warranty, if so how do i go about telling them about my problem? I dont even think i want another VLSD has anyone heard about the dealer replacing with a nismo diff + the difference in cash?
any input would be great, ill try posting this in the motorsports section also.
Thanks-Jason

How many miles on the car? The viscous pretty much reverts on its own at a certain mileage even in normal driving. It should be covered if you're under warranty. You may want to switch to a 1.5 (a 2 is dicey if you're not used to it) if you're trashing the stock.

If your vlsd is worn and you want a cheap solution you could always shim it. You could get the results of a 1way all the way up to virtually having a welded. If you shim it to react like a welded I'd reccomend getting a nismo diff cover to handle the heat. I have friends who have done this to their car and havent had any problems with it for about 6 months now. Daily driving duties, drift events, and 9 hr trips out of state, no problems at all.
Otherwise just get an aftermarket clutch type lsd.

I'm surprised it even lasted this long
Do you have a heavy foot, Nevaland? Did you race your Zee hard and/or often? I have an 'O4 Touring Coupe with a f-l-a-w-l-e-s-s AT, 17+k, &, so far, it's been a sweet experience!
Since I'm 59, MTs don't appeal to me any more. I got this nice deal with my Zed:
'O4 Touring Coupe with 13k, for $2O,5OO (these beaZts are very expensive down here)!
Good luck on your VLSD odyssey.

How do I know if my VLSD is having issues? I have noticed lately My car seems to feel like less power is getting to the wheels than whats coming out of the tranny/motor.
Also, Whenever VDC is off, I will break loose much easier than i used too..the tires are getting worn with 22,000miles on them, any input?
