From Carl Rydquist who drives the City Tire Onliine/Kallusive clothing FD 350z and a guy who has raced the 24hours of Nurburgring among other races when I bought my Z from him:

"First thing a Z needs to drift is sway bars. The balance is there with the stock suspension. Before you get coilovers, feel how the car handles then when you get coilovers, you know what you want to replicate." (paraphrased)

Normally I wouldn't listen and just slam the **** out of the car and learn how to drive it, but coming from a guy with the background of Carl, I had to listen and I suggest everyone does. It's helped a ton.
