at least you realized it. While drifting is new to me, I like to think that I can be open to it and find out more about it. I kind of like the skill it requires to be sliding sidways two inches from the wall with your door open while you are standing on the door sill and waving at the crowd. But then I would like to fly upside down 20 feet off the ground with all the controls on the plane working backwards too. It is all about the rush........

I just want to reiterate....I think drifting well does require some level of skill. But its not racing. And I like "go" more than "show". That's why I spent money on making my street car faster rather than making it look better. If I thought the other way around, I'd probably like drifting.

Just my opinion...do what you like. I think drag racing and oval racing suck too...just for reasons other than those I dislike drifting for.

im dying to learn how to drift. i have the drift bible and have watched it a few times, but no real track time and also i am still in the breakin period, i only have 450miles on my track. Soon enough. I have the greatest respect for both inline and drifiting, but can anyone say that straight drag racing requires more skill.

I like car surfing a whole lot better than the reference to ice skating. I once called it "dirt tracking on asphalt" and was set straight by some surfing.....ah........drifting guys. They are starting to use Z's so i support it. The drifting Z's i have seen are basically stock, so I guess we make enough horsepower to go sideways.
Team RS-R has a pretty successful Z in F1.

think of it this way, the motocrossers at the X games are doing stunts for the crowd. It's the same principle here, it's entertainment. You also have to look at where drifting came from, japan. There is no show vs go over there. Its both...

Here was a video i found of me at drift show off, first run is a practice, then is the real run. Do you know of anyone that has video of my runs? This is the only one i know of, i drifted the whole high speed ring like 6 times and there is no video to show it.

You know what I hate. This stupid term 'grip driving'. You guys do realize that the word and it's meaning came from a pourly translated, over dramatic anime. You think Jackie Stewart sat around with Tyrell saying "this car is very pourly desinged for my style of grip driving. I will never be able to win tommorows battle! Our team and families will be shamed and thrown out of the Wilkshire prefecture".

WTF! It's not even acurrate considering you do need to slide the car a certain amount (8%-10%) to maximize slip angle for best speed through a corner.

Just viewed the video posted by Topics II... IMHO, that was pretty cool! Looks like I'll have to try to make it to an event sometime in the future.

I agree with swifty949, watching drifting was similar to watching the X-games....thrilling! Judging is done in the same manner...style and level of difficulty, but for the fans, we also get to awe at the raw power of the drifting machines. Let's just say, it looks like it takes much more than 300hp to pull a stunt like the one on the video.

For the time being, I like watching WRC on TV, World Superbike Championship at Laguna Seca, and in October, I'll try to hit the ALMS. On occasion, I enjoy watching people drag their daily drivers at the Sacramento Speedway, but other than that you won't see me ever watching Nascar oval races. If drifting was televised, I'd probably watch it.

the american mentality or racing is just raw power and going strait, and i think that sucks. racing also includes turning and many other aspects. thats why american cars were just built for power and going strait and not even givng any thought to turning. im glad drifting is here.

That statment is ignorant at best !
Are you telling Me that the Vette is made for the 1/4 mile ?

drifting was developed because of rush and fun of it, it was never super competitive thats why in D1 it isnt about whos ahead of u its about ur style and technique, so its not really a head to head competition although they hav the tandem battles but its still judged on ur skill whether ur skill surpasses the other driver or not but read this http://www.d1gp.com/about_drift.html it should clear sum misconceptions

Really? Jeez I guess youre right, that $5000 worth of suspension work and the $10000 worth of engine work is all for show. I guess drifting really is stupid!

Have any of you drift bashers out there ever tried drifting?

I love drifting, and I have never had so much fun In my life and screw all you people for taking a negative opinion on it..

The real sorry fact is just how ignorant you people are. You can't accept anything new or different and I feel sorry for all of you who can't accept things like drifting. There's a lot your missing......

Drifting was never meant to be racing. Last time I checked, drifting was about angle and speed and eating orange cones.

Get out there and try it, I definatelly gets me GOing more than a "grip" drive. Shift up, crank the wheel, pin the gas, white smoke going everywhere, reaching freeway speeds after pumping the throttle a few times, a little more anlge and BAM, you let go of the wheel as the rotates few times faster than your hands could possibly turn it, and your hands ****** it as the desired angle is reached, and another snap the other way, rpms dropping , downshift to 2nd and full throttle, BRAKES!!!(no abs, please), apex time(thank god for the brakes) and a nice fishtail at corner exit. Nothing compares.

THERE IS NOTHING QUITE LIKE DIRFTING AND YOU WILL BE SEEING MORE SOON. So get used to it.

If I can keep finding tires on ebay, I'll still be drifting.

None of you may know the thrill, sucks for you.

I can honestly say drifting is a refreshing break from the norm in today's motorsports. While I definetly perfer WRC, I think drifting is a helluva lot of fun to watch and do. It all goes back to when drifting was underground, on the lonely mountain roads. The togue battles are still the greatest and most exciting form of drifting. Best Motoring brought it mainstream with it's "Togue Showdown" on a few of it's DVDs. Wipping an NSX through a windy, narrow stretch of mountain road looks like so much fun, too bad I live in FL.

As for the comment on drifting requiring no skill. I think it requires a ton of skill to master car control and slip angles. It takes awhile to trust your car and yourself and go full speed into a sweeper. Most drift enthusiasts have very little "show" pieces on their cars, as having to replace a bomex body kit everytime u hit a curb or a wall would be a pain :P! The reason I think drifting has received so much negative press is that it is the new "big thing" and so alot of wannabes are coming out and doing it just cause eveyrone else is. Reminds me of the drag craze in the early 90s.

The Scca recognizes it and I just watched a segment on it in...............Hot Rod Magazines TV program. It is here, it is cool and it is certainly a motorsport.
