Default LS S14 or 350z for drifting

I'm torn guys, cant decide if i want to sell the z after the drift season and build a LS S14 or keep the z.

This is my first season and think im doing ok but want to push my self harder but kinda afraid to being that i have this nice z.

If i build the s14 the way i want it, i think its gonna come close to what i spent on the z so that why i dont want to sell it. I figured between the ls swap, suspension, cage, wheels, etc... it will cost me close to 15-20k...

Thoughts?

Here is what the z current looks like...

I recently sold my Z for a DD GS300 and picked up a S14 to drift with and went with a SR swap and for sure I am missing the Z's torque and handling out of the box. 15-20K is about right to get up to the Z's standards with a lil more power.. I'd keep the Z!. GL either way

ive been pondering on selling the z for an s14 as well. like you said if your affraid of pussing it in the z then you will get no where. why not buy an s14 on the side? they are not to expensive. or maybe even an s13

im on my 3rd 240 and my second z

right now currently i have a track s13 sr (300whp) coupe
and a z i daily with on suspension stuff done to it

Im in the same boat as you man, i pretty much just finished building my s13 but somethings make me want to go back to drifting a z.
240's are older and dump **** is always going to break on them but they are super fun to drive.

replacement parts for a s14 are alot cheaper than for the Z. i really dont like the V8 movement that has started in drifting but my vote is for the s14 due to the cost in the long run.

We think alike, I DD an 06 gs350. See the sr is cheaper than the v8 swap but I want the torque and reliable of a LS. U had any probs with ur SR swap?

I have one on the side. But having 3 cars can get expensive.

I thought u sold ur z to ktran? And I love the reliability of the z. Most ppl have to stop and let their car cool down and worry bout leaks and etc. The only time I stopped was to stretch cause I was cramping up from all the drifting, lol...

Johnnyone:

No problems with my SR swap except a loose starter cable. What is killing me right now is i'm on stock suspension and stock diff. Once i go to coilovers and a legit 2 way then i'll be in the game but right now I'm just Highway Riding

keep drifting it and you'll eventually stop being afraid of breaking it or crashing.

the first couple times i drifted my z i felt like i was killing puppies, but after 3 or 4 events i stopped worrying about it.

sold my first 350z to Ktran, wrecked it and didnt have the money at the time to fix it. Got a 97 s14 for a little while, didn't feel like daily'ing a 240 so got another Z, started drifting the second z again and didnt wanna drift a daily so built a SR'd s13.

but now im at the point i want a truck trailer and only 1 drift cah, but i really dont want to daily a truck, so id mainly drive the track toy.

this is why im torn :/

lol @ killing puppies

I say keep the Z
I plan to get a 06-08 Aristo which can be had for cheap, keep it simple as a DD grocery getter/future daddy mobeel (just planning, so the wife cant say crap about selling the Z when the time comes).
and make the Z into a weekend warrior.

love that 2nd shot,
your Z looks sick going sideways!!!!!

OP. I've been asking myself this question all the time...
that is... until I walk to my Z, look at how effing bad *** it is, drive around, see a POS 240, then i'm reminded of why I bought it.

But for real though, I LOVEEEEE S13's and S14's.

My opinion is to keep the Z. Convert some of your more serious mods back to stock. Keep the Z as a DD.

Pick up an S13 or S14 for drifting.

I'd rather drift my Z than a 240. If you plan on wrecking a lot, then yes, get a 240. Otherwise I say just keep the Z; it's not the end of the world if you rip off a bumper or two.

Ah gotcha. yea having a truck trailer would be nice. I always have to rely on someone taking tires to the event for me. I know the z can hold 4 inside the car but i have 10 wheels and tire.

Thought about getting a small trailer 2.

Thxs for the feedback guys,

Some people do install trailer hitches and buy the little harbor freight trailers for their stuff. Just a thought.

Why not build an SR20 or RB25 240sx? Cheaper.

I say stick with the 350z. Plus soon the 350z will become the replacement car for the 240sx in the drift world. Especially since the price of them keeps going down. Got to love nissan value lol.

^ yea exactly

my 240 will rape the z once it hits 16 lbs, but it takes a little bit to boost up
and the z's torque will always kick the *** end out instantly
