That's like we asking you if you pronouce "Zone" Zee-one or "Zoom" Zee-oom. We only use "Zed" when describing the single letter alone. It's like "W", say the letter "W" or "Q"... and see if it sounds the same at the beginning of "wood" or "quiet".

But where does the "d" come from? I can understand the "e" just like "Bee" or "Cee" or "Dee" or "Gee" or "Pee" or "Tee" or "Vee" and last but not least "Zee". So in Canada wouldn't B then be pronounced "Bed" when said alone?

Just because one letter is said diffrently doesn't mean we have to put it on all the other letter. Going back to Q, with your logic, you should say "Q" like "key" instead of "Queue". "M" should be "mee" instead of "mm". You see what I mean?

"Zed" is the French prononciation of the letter. Probably a left over from the initial colonisation...

I like Zedebras ! LOL !

I think my argument holds more water. We could stick an "ee" on the end of any letter if we wanted to to for consistancy, I am just saying that the "ed" has no consistancy. I just think it is weird that you treat one letter different than all the rest in that you add another consonant sound on to the end of it when pronounced alone. There are no other letters that that is done on to compare to but there are plenty of "ee" letters that compare to "Zee". I have always loved this difference between Canadians and US ever since I owned a Cavailer Zed 24.

Roof->Ruf
Mauve->Mov
Grey->Gray

Ha ha ha..........this thread is funny.

The funny thing for me is, I've lived in Canada my whole life, but if somebody told me their car gets 11 L per 100 km I would have non clue how good that is, or, if you told that the ZED weighs 1500 Kilograms I would say Kilo-whats??

I guess its all those american car programs on TV. Also, isnt it strange that tire rim diameters are measured in standard, and tire width is measured in metric.

Now why do you hate Canadians? Is it because we dont have 'the right to bear arms in our legislation? or is it because we are a diverse, multi-ethnic, non gay bashing, easygoing bunch of ppl who sincerely care about others??? EH????? OK....maby we are a little bit to polite and say 'sorry' more than we should???????????

Common guys lets not let one bad apple ruin the hole basket!

Guys, look at the number of posts by him, he obviously is a bored individual who is trying to get a rouse out of us. Just ignore him, there are lots of them around this forum, just ignore them and they will eventually go back into their caves.
