I was reading the G35driver forum and came across a thread with a link on how to disable DRL for Nissan Senta. I wonder if it will work on the Z that has the Bi-Xenon and uses the low beam HID as DRL.

For the longest time, I have been trying to figure out a way to disable the DRL on my Z. I hate having the HID on all the time and not being able to turn it off unless your turn off the engine.

Anyone interested in giving this a try on their Z with Bi-Xenon?

Um, isn't that illegal? DRL is required by law on all new vehicles, I would think intentionally disabling it would be in violation of that. Not to mentioned you'd probably be up **** creek if you ever got into an accident during the day.

 

You are correct, it's illegal. I will just turn on my HID manually if I do see a police car. No big deal.

However, do police actually check the DRL of all cars involved in day time accidents to see if they are working properly?

 

not that I have ever heard of. There are sooo many cars rolling around without DRL's. Either because they've blown or are U.S. cars. Cops don't seem to care.

 

Never been pulled over ever since my bulb blew out. I think they're more concerned about other things...

Not for a fender bender, no. But that's not really a concern. If someone was seriously injured or killed, then yes they would, and that's when a massive lawsuit without your insurance company would really suck.

Not saying it's likely, but disabling something that's intended to improve the safety of others on the road, I don't understand the reason to do it. If you want to swap your steering wheel, or disable airbags, go nuts, that's your decision and your risk. I just can't say the same for DRLs, especially with the number of people (not referring to you at all, just an example) on the road who don't turn on their lights in heavy rain or fog.

 

honestly DRL does help with people seeing your car. I dont' really see the point of disabling it for the sake of "saving" your HiDs.

but on the flip side, DRLs are not required in the states, and they seem to be doing fine without them. So i can see StraySheeps point of view.

I still wouldn't bother with all the trouble of disabling it though...doesn't serve a purpose imo.

 

on my previous car, they had a recall of actually taking out the drls. People who came on the army base would have no way of turning it off before getting in the gates which they made you go back home. Same thing with tint. I have seen tint taken off on the spot at army bases.

They are definately not illegal to not have them.

Getting back on the top of disabling the DRL, whether illegal or not, I am not interested.

I am interested if it can be done with the method posted for the Nissan Sentra.

Not being able to control the HID on/off is like not being able to control the VDC on/off. Can you imagine if you cannot turn off the VDC on your Z and always on when you drive? It SUCKS

^Actually, VDC on is the worse thing Nissan ever put into the car. However, VDC = For Noobs...
