The ZR has not seen more than maybe a dozen laps at DDT since the eng build. I had an air lock in the coolent that day and started to over heat so that was the end of that day unfortunately. I did get some passenger seat time in Sashas Z the same day though at MIR so the day ended well.

I would like to get some lapping in but no funds these days as back up just in case the car needs any repairs. I dont think I could hang with you guys in the curves with all that weight reduction you are doing pluss my rubber is street not very soft. I will do my best to come out to CSCS or some events to watch and cheer you guys on this year though.

CSCS is a really good spectator event. You could probably even do well in the show class if you wanted.

2TH, where do you mount the camera? I was thinking of putting a mount on the splitter but I thought it might be too low, but looking at yours it seems only a few inches off no? This summer we should do some runs with cameras on the trunk facing backwards and get some really cool shots that way.

I put it on the front rad support? That aluminum cross beam and the camera peaks out through the grill. Use one of those 3M adhesive pads and have the camera hanging upside down. Left of center so it won't have the plate holders in the frame.

oh ok, I thought it was really low like in a bumper lip or something. Its a good height how you have it though I like it. More exciting to watch than roof cams anyway. I bought the motorsport hero2 this winter but haven't tried it yet.


This weekend's project: Make lapping wheels look ridiculous (they were white).

Those are 265/40/18 A048s. Then I have a set with 255/40/17 RS3s for competition (street class).

Going to burn off the 18s and replace them this summer. No idea what.


Oh, and Im painting the whole car shortly. There are too many silverstone Zs

If you ever want an excercise in patience, instal your own solid subframe bushing.

It probably was worse because I have no experience and didn't have the right tools when I started, but, wow, what a major PITA

From what I have read its a really painful install. Did you use the long threaded rod way to torque it in? Or just pound on it with a hammer?

The wheels are a bit of a gag, but thats what is great about racecars, you can do anything with them. I basically just cleaned them (kind of), scuffed them up (kind of), used a deck of cards in between the tire and rim, and sprayed them with some no name rattle can. Assuming I get all 4 done on 1 can it would cost about $8 total.

There are a few runs in the paint but mostly from me being careless, not the spray itself. Heres another angle. They will be blinding bright in the summer sun.

The orange is sick.

For the subframe bushing.....

First I drilled the OEM bushing into next week.
Then I rented a reciprocating saw to go through the race.
Then the OEM bushing was no more... but that took a few hours.

Then I tried to freeze the bushing, use some freeze free or something lube, and plan was to hammer it in, twice.
After 32 million whacks with a hammer both attempts failed. Only could ever get it in 0.75 inches before it was hopelessly jammed.

So had to go press route.
Went to Home depot and got some 1/2 inch grade 5 bolts. Stupid idea.
Didn't have a "press plate" so I used brake rotors, which have 1/2 inch holes in the hub.
The first night I had zero success pressing it in.
After bolt sheered off and I lost hearing in my left ear from the bolt breaking, and the rotor clanging off the lift.

Back to the drawing board I found some grade 8 bolts and nuts at a Fastener place.
Started using these with some success. I measured success in mm's.
It was working til I split the brake rotor hub into 4 pieces from the pressure.
I went through 3 rotors before I figured out I need to spread out the force.

So today I put one gold coloured diff mounting plate on the nut side of the rotor to help redistribute the force. And used WD40 to lube it like it was going out of style. And once I had things sorted out it went in without much drama.

Now I need to work on my ring gear bolts which I cannot break free. I don't have a vice and dont know anyone locally who does.

Hey guys,

Wondering if i can pick your brains?

Planning on coming out for at least a couple of track events this season. Never been before. Trying to prepare the car at the moment. Driving an 07 base. So far have purchased or plan on the following:

Enkei nt03 18x10.5
Handbook rs3 rubber
Oil cooler kit from racerpartswholesale
Stainless brake lines

Should i run a staggered or square tire setup?
What's a good rotor pad combo for the track?
Would the pathfinder cooling mod be a good idea?

Since its my first season i don't want to go too crazy, just want to make sure the car runs reliably before, during and after the track. Any input / suggestions are welcome.
