Yeah. that's what I do. I have 3 mitts on the go.

Tier 1) Body mitt
Tier 2) Wheel mitt
Tier 3) Really nasty stuff mitt.
i) Inside exhaust.

I use Meguiars Gold Class car wash on everything. I think any dedicated car wash of decent quality will do on the wheels as well as the body.

I use 1 bucket, but I empty it and rinse it out often to get rid of any grit that may be lurking at the bottom. I rinse all the mitts and chamois at the same time. Grit elimination is the key to long term success.

just thinking about the trouble in keeping those rims clean is already giving me a headache but i think i'll give them a good wash this weekend before they get mounted. after that, i'm not sure how meticulous i'll be with getting into all the nooks and crannies

What I do sometime is put the stockers on the night before.

Then I wash the car and rims separately. Once everything is dry, and the brake oxidation is off the brakes ( one or two stops in the street) I put the Volks back on. It's not super hard to do, and gives long lasting clean looks.

I think it actually saves time. Change all 4 wheels in 45 mins. Makes washing your Volks super easy and effective.

You've got polished lips now. You will be taking those rims off a couple times this summer. HAHA!
