Have you neen taking any anti inflammatory medications? How many weeks has this been?
Yup, never hurt before until this happened. The guy isn't talking about surgery, he just pointed out that the other option is surgery, but he hasn't told me anything about it, and I think it's because he doesn't do that, thus putting me and my money elsewhere.
This guy is proposing making orthotics and me wearing them. One daytime one that I'd have to wear 3 months, and one night time that I'd have to wear for the rest of my life.
It has been about one week, and I've not been given any meds, I've just been wearing this thing in my mouth that stops me from clenching my teeth.
Also, it was explained to me that this is a non-standard way of doing this, and that as such, insurance will likely NOT pay up. I need to figure out what the standard way is, so that the procedure is paid for by the insurance company, because lets face it, I pay those SOB's out of every paycheck, they should pay for my med bills.
Anyway, I'm gonna go to my doctor today, to get sent to have an x-ray done, to figure exactly what's going on here, because up till now, no x-rays have been taken, and the dentist that I went to made his diagnosis entirely based on me opening and closing my mouth.

IMO Meds should have been very close to the first line of treatment in your case. Radiographs (or X rays as they are called by laypeople) will have difficulty detecting a problem given your injury.

Most TMJ disorders aer self limiting in terms of the duration of symptoms they produce. That is to say almost all of them stop producing pain symptoms on their own. The length of time between onset and cessation of symptoms can be very variable and may last years.

Going to your doctor is a good idea in this case. I'm not saying the Dr you went to see is wrong. but the fact that he only seems to have given one very expensive treatment option does raise some alarms in my mind.

When you see your doctor/ dentist. You shuold get a diagnosis, and a list of possible treatment plans, For each treatment plan a prognosis, or the Dr's best guess of how each treatment plan will play out.

that way you can make an informed decision as to what is right for you. If a treatment plan has a poor prognosis, it's usually discarded. If two treatment plans have the same prognosis the more expensive one if thrown out.

Eventually you are left with what should be done in the patient's best interest.

The other thing that bothers me about your account of what's said is how loosely this gentleman throws around the term "specialist".

The royal college of dental surgeons of Ontario does not recognize management of TMD as a specialty and thus it cannot be claimed that he is a "specialist" in it. It's semantics but the only "real" specialties are:
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Periodontics
Endodontics
Paedodontics
Orthodontics
Prosthodontics
Anaesthesia
Public Health
Oral Pathology
Oral Radiology

So unless he has an actual specialist degree from an accredited University in one of those areas he can't call himself a specialist. He can say he's and expert, he can say he limits his practice to treating only this disorder, but can't call himself a specialist.

Even if someone says they have additional training in a particular field, the quality and duration of those continuing education courses is variable.

Another term you see thrown around a lot is "Cosmetic Dentist". The term just doesn't exist. It's not a specialty, and every dentist in the world is a "cosmetic dentist". But more and more are marketing themselves that way in an effort to gain business.

Anyways, I'm going off on a huge tangeant. I think if you had come to see me I would have taken detailed notes about your history, examined you and come up with a working diagnosis , ie transient anterior meniscus displacement. I would have given you some high dose anti inflammatories to take for a little over a week, and I would have had a folllow up with you. If there were no imprevements then we start looking at MRI's. splints, and other treatments. I guarentee you will be walking out of your Dr's office with a prescription or two for anti inflammatories.

Mike ftw!
I went to a walk in clinic first, and the Doc there told me to go to the hospital and get x-ray'd there, and said they would just "pop it back in in a second"
When I got there, and talked with that Doctor, he kinda looked at me like the other guys were on crack, then after making me open and close my mouth a couple of times while he felt the muscles around the jaw, ended up prescribing me an anti-inflammatory and a muscle relaxant. He said that should do the trick, and if not, to come back and see him again before considering random expensive treatments.
So yea, I got me pills, and will be popping them for a week. I think I just dodged a $3500 bullet

Oh man, I dunno when I've been this tired before. I was falling asleep on my way to work, glad I didn't crash.
In other news, I had my first (ofcourse purely fictional ) street race of the season. I was driving home at 3am from dropping my friend off, and this Altima does a blowby and then slows down. I ignore him and keep driving. We come up to a light, and I flick my VDC off, just incase. I roll slowly in 1st gear to be ready if he does anything, and sure enough, he guns it. I get about a car and a half by the end of first, and a good 3 cars by the end of 2nd. I pulled on him rather convincingly, and no one with a brain would ask for a rematch at this point. But this guy did. We line it up again, and ofcourse this time I KNOW that we're going, so VDC stays off, and I slip the clutch from 3500rpm. Light goes green, he obviously just spins cause he's FWD and I get 2 cars just on the launch, 3-4 cars by the end of first, and it's just embarassing by the end of 2nd.
At the next light he wants to know what I have under the hood lol. Exact words "Bro, what do you have in there?"
"Uhmm.. it's a bone stock G"
"No way! I've taken G's before"
"Are you sure they knew you were racing them? "
And I drove away. What a clown lol.

Haha, nonsense! This was a fictional story. Any similarities it may have to reality are purely coincidental
Remember kids, don't street race, it's bad.

Hey, do you guys know the owner of a black Z with kit, wheels and plate 1TIGHT Z? (or somethin like that, not sure if I remembered it right)
Saw it around my area, so I'm kinda wondering if it's someone from here. It seemed to have fake GT-C's, so that was kinda but the rest of it was pretty nice.

can you guys justify spending just over 2g's for 4 nights in Vegas? sounds a bit much dont you think? Ive got the money but would you say 4 nights are worth that much.. Hotel + flight = $1000
~200 min a night on drinks alone and fun x 4 nights = $800

so around 2G's for 4 nights .. Am I the only one that thinks that insane?
