Default 350z reliability

now i'm probably going to jinx myself here, but this summer my car turns 6 years old. it went into service in june 2002 and i purchased the car in july of 2004. since i've owned it, the car has never been in for a repair. this is a first model year car and also well past it's warranty and i'm very happy with it's reliability and lack of problems. the only time it's been in the shop are for fluid changes (oil every 6 months, all fluids every 2 years).

what's everyone else's repair experience been like?

I sold mine at 98k to my good friend, and his mom is still driving it at 103k with no issues at all. VQ definitely earned my respect, those who know me knew how hard I pushed that engine, even saw 8000RPM multiple times before.

I firmly believe that it does not matter how you drive, it's all in the maintenance, I had a meticulous schedule for that.

60k 04.5 model here. Other than the tire feathering recall and some squeeking here and there, can't say i've had any major problems with the car. *knocks on wood*

List of problems i've encountered with my 2003 Z (pre-TT):
- Front-tire feathering (both tires replaced by Nissan recall).
- Both driver and passenger power-window motors failed completely (replaced under warrenty).
- Rear-axle clicking (techie tightened *something*, not as loud after).
- Rear-windowshield nozzle leak, replaced under warrenty, but still leaks on launch.
- Fuel metre still does not measure correctly.
- Howling noise when driving between 120-130 km/h (only happens between those speeds).

- Window motor has been replaced, cleaned, you name it.
- Transmission has been replaced
- CD Player won't work unless it's really warm outside.
- Rear hatch wont open properly
- Retarded dipstick (does that count?)

I've owned my car since 50k. Since then i've put almost 30k and have had all of these problems.

Had my crappy Bose replaced cause of the same problem. Condensation forming causing CRAZY skipping. It took about an hour of driving (w radio on) till the unit got REALLY hot for it to start working properly.

Retarded dipstick (does that count?)

I asked about the dipstick at the dealer and they said its a very clever design. I gave him a odd look and he just proceeds to go on with other stuff of the car haha

'O4 Touring Coupe, $2O,5OO, had only 13k on it, when I got it. IF the previous owner didn't lie, NO problemos at all with him ('xept the driver's side window motor's part-time operation, the gas latch release thingie, & the hatch door's struts, otherwise, it's a s-w-e-e-t monZter!) NO FEATHERING!!!

Actually, come to think of the problems...

Fuel Tank passage recall
Fuel gauge inaccurate
Transmission replaced
Rear hatch shock replaced
Bose skips when going over bumps
Drivers side window won't go up when it's cold (under 0 degrees)

That's about it.

Also, for those who has the inaccurate fuel gauge. If you had your senders replaced, and it still doesn't read proper, then take it back to dealership and ask them to adjust the fuel sending unit. That's how they fixed mine.

Another problem is that if they did the gas tank recall, the mechanics might have pinched the fuel line that goes to the sending unit, hence not all the fuel is going in. For this, they have to replace the gas tank iirc... you can find out about it in the search.

I have an 03.
TPMS not installed properly from Oakville nissan.
Front Tires replaced.
Transmission and clutch replaced.
Window Streaking fixed.
Axle Click TSB completely fixed.
Fuel Filler Hose recall.

Honestly, most of that stuff happened very early on in ownership. Once I got it all taken care of, the car has been very solid. Now up to 58000 km.

Don't believe in jinxes, kid; the reliability histories of our monZters speak for
themselves. Some guys mod' & mod' & mod, until they blow their engines to
smithereens, then cry "Foul, Nissan!!!". There's so much even a 3.5L Nissan engine can take; some of these dudes take on projects they know little about, & mess up a fine piece of engineering technology! So, relax!!!
