Question Winter Time Questions

Hey guys.... well its almost the time of the year we have to store our Z in the garage or so... I just wanted to know what ways and methods that should be done to keep it in condition.. so next summer will be good?

So far i have heard and been told the following:
1) Change the engine oil before snow hits
2) go to dealer and do a flush on the entire car
3) take out the battery
4) well.... of course give it a wash
5) ?????
6) ????

So i just wanted advice on how to store it during winter time. Also i have seen people during winter time warming their cars daily for like 10 mintues and then going back home (for condo owners) is that a good idea? or just take it for a spin in the underground parking lot? Thanks guys

Rather than removing the battery, I suggest getting a battery tender to maintain the battery during the winter. Here is a link to the Battery Tender website...................www.batterytender.com.

You don't have to remove the battery, just remove the negative terminal. It's a PITA to take out the battery. On top of that list, I also add fuel stabilizer.

for 5 years this is what i did (and this is by no means the best method, but it puts things in perspective).

1. oil change relatively close to store date
2. top up gas almost to overfill
3. kept battery in and did not remove -ve terminal (battery died of course but i would jump-start it beginning of season) <-- stock battery lasted for FIVE years until it finally wouldn't hold a charge no more.
4. over-inflate tires +2 or 3 psi.
5. gave the car a good clean inside and out.

that's it, i've never used fuel stabilizer before, no moth *****, no stuffing my exhaust tips to prevent critters or removing rims and putting the car on jacks.

I drive mine as long as there's no snow on the ground.

the Z in the winter voids your warranty. Read your manual.

Poor Arctic Z club. They never even had a chance....

^Wrong

I've taken my car to Nissan dealership for warranty works multiple times. Anyone can vouch for that.

It was snowing too and I had summer tires, and they were complaining about my summer tires. But they didn't do jack ****

Drving your Z in the winter does NOT void your warranty... in fact if you take your care to the dealer don't tell them that you store your car because that will in fact void your battery warranty.

I live in NY, I am going to pick up a Z. This will be my only car and it needs to drive in winter, sometimes in snow. Any suggestions on how to keep me alive? Should I buy snow tires? Should I abandon this project if this is my only car?

I drove my 06 in the winter on clean roads. The only worry is with the PSI dropping in the tires during night driving.

Also you run the risk of the tires not performing as well as they should because of the compound they use for summer incompared to winter tires.

Any long trips I just rented a car which was mainly on weekends, and for 60 bucks it is cheaper than spending 1500 on a set of winter tires.

You can winter basically any car. I know people that winter NSXs. It depends on how much you care for your car. In the winter, I can't wash it properly, so I'd have to take it to the car wash, which is really iffy for your paint, as they use harsh chemicals that strip the wax. Also, a ton of salt gets on your underbody, you get your feet dirty and wet and put them on the floor mats. Even if you have rubber mats, it'll still leak to your floormats.
A winter driven car will never look as clean and mint as a summer only garage queen, assuming they're treated equally.

yes, you *can* drive your z (with summer tires) in clean, dry, cold winter days, but you take a HUGE risk if it suddenly snows (even wet snow) of flying into a ditch at low speeds.
