Lots of people drive their cars with rims in the winter in toronto. If you have an alternate means of transportation and need only drive when you want, then you could survive with a Z on 20's with summer cars in the winter just driving when it's clear.
I wouldn't do it as it would ruin the finish on the wheels etc. but it could be done. After my Z im gonna buy another Porsche, probably a 911 C4S and drive it all year round. I hate putting my car away in the winter.

i have a summerbeater and a summer car. now how does that work? i just put up w/ it and drive the car a lot less. i see snow start to fall heavy i quickly drive home lol just like a vampire w/ sun. just run good winter tires w/o vdc(for the more experienced drivers) in winter and its gravy except when you stop.

That's because you shouldn't be using summer tires or "no season" tires in freezing temperatures, period. It has nothing to do with brand names/stock/performance and has everything to do with the fact that snow tires are not made from the same rubber as summer tires.
Winter tires are made from a softer compound so they don't turn into stiff blocks when they are cold. Your summer rubber turns into summer plastic at freezing temp. Forget the snow on the ground. Pay attention to the temperature. It's dangerous and even more so in a 300hp rear wheel drive car.
^You must be out of your mind. I had absolutely no traction with RE040 and RE050A when I went to a lapping event, even on street especially in rain it harmed my driving confidence. I had much better experience using the Falken FK451.
Tires are pumped to 36 psi cold for track and 38 psi for street.

i hope so too,, and for traction with summer tires, forget about it. i have performance summer tiers and didnt have much traction when i put the car in the garage in november, and it wasnt even really cold yet. i remember pulling out of my drive way one morning and the car just slid and i was like what the heck was that, there is no snow or its not even raining. i was suprisedd and realized that i should let this car sit until summer.
40 psi is nominal for sidewall flex for spirited driving, on track the tire temp increase the psi a lot, but on street.. most of the time, nobody drives hard enough to get the temp up to increase the psi to 40. So I bump it up a bit.
I've gone down to 29psi for track before due to the significant increase in pressure, which was 40 psi hot.
Lowest I've gone for street was 34psi, even still it's not safe enough to push hard enough to get the psi past 40 hot.

Yeesh, I run on the street with 34psi or so lol.. I guess I need more tire pressure. Maybe I'll pump it up in the spring and see how it goes.
What is the stock pressure for the Z? My boxster was 32psi (though mid engined) and I just instinctively went to 32-34psi for my Z as well. I never really thought about it until this thread.

Hellooo Boyz
I've driven my '06 GT for the 3rd year through the biggest snowstorms (I'm in sales - if I don't go out, I don't get paid), and haven't had a problem. I put Blizzak LM25's on 17 inch rims - zed drives like a John Deere tractor. Have even beat sport utes off the line.
My biggest fear on a snowy day is a soccer mom on her "all season" radials.
