I bought my Z in Seattle which is 2 hrs away from cali. I can tell you that it's going to be a 3 days trip, very tiring. But the upside is that your Canadian and can get away with speeding.
I hope you're on stock suspension, you're going to encounter some bad roads. But it'll be a nice trip, good experience. I planned to do it as well a couple years back. But motel + gas + food can add up quick while on the road.
On a side note, I'm sure rocky mountain roads could be fun

rocky mountain roads on a sunny day can be so much fun.....
and could be a bit scary on a rainy dark night i guess...
the US and Canadian system is linked , rite?
if u don't pay for your ticket , u are not able to renew the plate ?? are u ?
i have no idea....that's what i was told...
and how many hrs u spent on driving every day?
i guess i need to make a detailed driving plan as to how many kms i am going to be driving on a single day. and where to stop for sleep and all that.....
Oh, Redbull and other energy drinks will be your best friend.
I drove a few thousand km's in Europe in a short 10 days, everytime I hit the gas station, I would grab myself a Redbull or NOS or something to keep it going and prevent falling asleep.
IIRC, you can still get tickets in the US. You'd just have to pay for it or fight for it at whereever you got the ticket...

I think what he means is that it won't affect your insurance and you won't lose any demerit points unless it's near the border. IIRC New York and Toronto have an agreement where you'll be affected, I'm not sure about Michigan.
^Road trip...
Op,
You should be fine, if you have driven long distances before, if not.. this is what I have done in the past.
Plan out your trip, including all gas & rest stops, also planning on where you will be sleeping for the night.. Make sure to stop for an hour, at least every 3-4 hours so you can stretch and get a drink.
Make sure to only drive during the daytime, night driving tends to get crazy on long trips. Also, drive during your normal "awake" hours, ie: if you are normally awake between 9am -9pm.. use that time to drive... It will keep from confusing your internal clock.
