Default Is my car a target or being watched?

Have you ever felt like you were being set up for a street racing bust?

Well I have a couple times.

Once early this summer in a local town I was just cruising around down town and had my teen age daughter in the car. We were just out for a drive in the nices weather. She likes to look cool in the car and does not mind the old man driving as long as I have her music on.

So we were doing a few laps in the downtown strip area and we come up behind a lowered heavily tinted Honda at the lights. This is dead nuts downtown BTW and about 7pm or so on a nice summer evening with a fair number of people around. I am sitting there waiting for the lights to turn and could not see the driver at all because of the tint but something was just not right. I could not make up my mind if I was going to go straight and follow or make a turn left. Thinking to myself I could smoke this guy. Well wouldn’t you know it as soon as the lights turn the Honda nails it and spins the ties (try’s to pull away quickly) well I new a lot better and was like WTF we are downtown with all these people around are you crazy or what? So I went left and he went straight. I tried to see the guy as I looked back but could not.

The looks on the people on the sidewalk though was very suspicious.

More recently I had another incident.
On my way home from work and again coming up to a set of lights to make a right this time. There was a car in front of me and strange looking women on the corner with a stroller. By strange I mean she did not look young enough to have a kid in a stroller and was dressed in black with a very stocky look in the mid range but not over weight. (I would bet money she had a vest on but that thought came after.)
So the car in front of me goes to turn right on a red and the women goes to step off the curb at the very same time. I am like holy crap. The women steps back and looks at the light but realize that the light has now gone green. She waves the car in front of me on. The weird thing is she is looking at me and appears to be talking into her shoulder.
Something was just not right here. So off I go and make my right hand turn. I have about a mile to go then I need to make a left at the next lights. As I approach the lights and a heavily tinted white charger with black stripes pulls conveniently in front of me from the gas station off to the side. This car’s exhaust tips and bumper were black from exhaust smoke. I was not thinking at the time but remembered that I think someone on a forum mentioned this car as possible undercover cop. So we make the turn and we come quickly to another light. The charger is side by side with me now and the light is red and no one in front of us. I did not look over. I was thinking to myself just pull away nice a slow don’t even think about it. The light turns green and the charger pulls away in a provoking manner. I just pull away as normal. The charger hits some traffic up ahead and I pass. I glance in the rear seconds later and the charger is pulling a U turn on a 4 lane busy road.

Very suspicious I say.

On a side note I do know a few police officers and they are very cool with my car but I have a strange feeling there might be someone that wants to nail my car as a trophy catch.

hmmm... very suspicious.

good observations of your surroundings, not to mention restrain for going hard off the line. I believe your instincts are valid.

I have a story of being followed by a Honda Civic years back when I was driving a Integra Type R. I thought they were scoping out my house to come back and try steal my ride.

Yeah restraint is sometimes difficult. I often get challenged buy all kinds of cars but hardly ever come up side by side with a car worthy of a real challenge. I did come up to a very sweet light blue M3 all decked out on the 404 on the way home from the meet recently. He gave me thumbs up and took off. I didnt chase.

You are overthinking things. They wouldn't go to that trouble to catch one car that hasn't done anything yet.

crazy *** canuck cops.

You sound very paranoid. I wouldn't doubt that it was someone baiting you to race but i'm not sure it would be the police. I've had plenty of cars start following my direction and rev their motor then just suddenly turn around when they finally figure out that i'm not racing them in heavy traffic.

i wouldn't worry about it.

Let's get this worked out and solved. I want you to be able to sleep at night. Let me drive your car around for the next month. If I feel like I'm being set up I'll let you know. Of course, it may take longer than a month.

Didn't think entrapment was part of the game. I never quite understood that whole thing anyway. Provoking someone to break the law is retarded.

I make the cops feel like i'm stalking them.

Cops: "gdamn it's that slow Z driver again - he's breaking up our radar gun again. I swear he's following us Bob. Look at that kid on a bicycle with training wheels out accelerate him.

You're worried of getting busted for street racing because you were behind a Honda that left quickly at a stop light???

Then you started to get worried when you came up behind a Charger with tinted windows???

What makes me REALLY scared is how the cops always know where you'll be so they can setup the unmarked Hondas and Dodges in front of you. HMMMMMMM???

Interesting. I never really thought about this but I'll have to keep my eyes open now.. Well next year, since this season is pretty much over. But I wouldn't be surprised if cops set this stuff up on Hwy 7 in Vaughan. I don't street race but sometimes it is fun accelerating hard to the speed limit or just over. But I think a cop can prove that's reckless driving or racing if you accelerate really quickly (which of course is BS).
