How do I tell if a HKS (Dual Titanium Tips) exhaust is a genuine or replica?
I am looking at buying a used HKS exhaust, how do I tell if it’s a genuine or replica. I have seen replicas made by X02 and a bunch all over ebay.
I called HKS, they said they don’t really know I could tell. They said that there are no stamps logos or marking to distinguish the real ones from the knock offs. They told me to take pics and send them in, they would look at them and try to figure out if it’s a genuine unit or not.
I have read that the replicas tip colour don’t look the same, and they rust faster.
What should I look for?
Also what does a used HKS exhaust go for, the range would depend on condition and age.
Thanks
Kevin

New the HKS is about $1500-$2000 used I would say nobody who paid full price will let it go for less than $1000, unless it's beat to ****.
The dead give away is usually the tips, the tips on a genuine HKS start very blue and go to a light orange/brown. The Xo2 usually is more brown and has very little vibrant blue in it.
Post some photos, I might be able to help a little better.

If you bought it new through a well known local vendor... You wouldn't have this problem.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
And I agree with 4DGS -Nobody who purchased the exhaust new for $2k+ is letting it go for under $1k..

Agree.
The person that bought mine wasn't sure if it was real or not, and got speedstar to confirm it since it was bought from there.
With so many knockoffs, it would be hard to tell if it is the real deal or not.
And I would be careful if the seller is selling it for less than 1k. Unless you're buying it from the US. But would still probably be over 1k by the time it crosses the border.

How do I tell if a HKS (Dual Titanium Tips) exhaust is a genuine or replica?
See picture above, I actually made it.

There are many HKS replicas now, there are even replicas of replicas.
I have read that the replicas tip colour don’t look the same, and they rust faster.
What should I look for?
The tips will not be as vibrant. The replicas are even getting close to the same tip colors now though. Just remember that the real HKS does NOT have a x pipe.
Also what does a used HKS exhaust go for, the range would depend on condition and age.
You can check the market place, vendors on here sell the real HKS for around 1250-1400 shipped new. Most used go for 700-1000. These are US prices of course.
Thanks
Kevin
