I recently got into an accident with my 2003 350Z and the insurance has declared it as totaled. Now, I haven't been given the price that they will give me for the car but i don't think it will be more than 13-14 grand. I believe its more beneficial for me to rebuild the car as I have invested a lot in the car.
-Only 48,000 Km
-$5,000 sound system
-$7,000 worth of performance parts
The price of the car would be around $22,000 if I were to sell it as is before the accident.
The accident was a front end collision but the frame has not been touched as i went under a BMW X5 because the driver slammed the brakes at a yellow. I would have to replace:
-Driver WHL Airbag (~$500 used)
-Passenger DSH Airbag (~$500 used)
-Both Seat-belts
-Front Bumper (Will get Nismo V2, $400)
-Hood
-Radiator ($200-300)
-Dash Cover
-Both Headlights (I got a good deal - 2 for $200)
-Other parts that Im sure Im missing
and labour I got an estimate for $2,000 to install everything for all the parts provided
Im guessing around 5-6 grand in spending to get the car back on the streets.
Suggestions? What do you guys think? Should i just settle for the insurance money?
Thanks for looking.

Thankfully you weren't hurt. I'd be more concerned about how much your insurance is going to go up considering the accident was your fault. Will you be able to afford the insurance if you rebuild it?

Parting out and takig the money would be best. As mentioned, you would own a car with a slavage title. When you sell it it won't be worth a thing. Also I am sure if you are patient you could find a nice Z in a decent price range and keep some of parts for the new car? or maybe save and upgrade to HR, I hear they are more responsive to basic mods?

I say walk away from it, depending on the place where it is at now, you should strip it of any parts worth keeping and take the cash.
Besides, depending on the KM's on the car the insurance might give you more than you think. I was in a similar situation with my first Z. It was an 04, I got it with 50,000 Miles (american Z) and while driving home in Mississauga one night someone turned left right into me causing a head-on collision, it was a write off. I thought insurance would give me 15-18K (I paid 20 after taxes). Then went to look at it but couldn't check how many KMs on the car because the garage it was at "misplaced" the keys, so the insurance guy called me up and asked me (and I quote) "How many miles on it?" so I honestly responded "50,000 miles" instead of 80,000KMs
(i was technically honest). Next day he called me back and said they were prepared to offer me $27,000 so it took it and picked up an 06
