Anyone get new tires due to feathering?
I am. I took the car in to have some of the bugs ironed out, and complained about the excessive noise when slowing down/braking.
Sure enough, there is a feathering problem.
The dealer said that my front tires are cupped and that they'll be ordering new front tires for me. They'll also have to do an alignment. However, my understanding is that this fix is not really addressing the problem, as the root of the problem is the cambers.

hey guys..
Tires are on order and according to the Service Manager there is a feathering problem.
I got 19000K and the noise would happen when braking and slowing down. very annoying actually.

Happy New Year.......hope we can get this group going again like last a year it seems to be losing something. Lots of new people but no meets.
Cheers.
I had a MR2 a few years back. The back tires were set at a very extreme camber and they would only last around 20K. The inside tread would suddenly be gone one day and you would know unless you keep checking. There wasn't any undo noise associated with it though.
So when the tech guy stated that the Z tires are good for 15K-20k, I don't believe him. We should be able to get around 30K at least with proper wear.
My Z has that problem wherein the backend keeps sliding out when going around corners or when shifting into 2nd, so I don't expect my tires to last more than 2 seasons.

Hello from SoCal....just wandering the board and noticed you guys have the same problems we have out here. Here is a sample of what's being said on the Southern California Board:

"Nearly every Z has this problem to a lesser or greater degree, although newer models are less likely to. There are tons of posts on it on the national board. Mine (Dec. 2002 build date) started around 3k miles, dealer replaced the fronts at 9k and it's back again at 12.5k. My alignment is dead on, at least according to the Nissan specs.
I spoke to NNA this morning and they said they are just coming up with a new TSB (not the rotate in place one) that is supposed to fix the or at least alleviate the problem. They're supposed to call me back in the next day or two".
