Car started throwing CEL tonight for a misfire and sputtering. It idles rough now. From what I have been reading my options seems to be plugs, coil packs, injectors, bad wiring or plugged cats. Since I have test pipes I think I can rule out plugged cats. Going to start checking plugs in the morning but would like to avoid going to the stealership for coil packs.

Pretty sure it's not the injectors since they have less then 5k on them.

 

What code are you getting? Are you getting a random misfire code or a code specific to a cylinder?

 

If its a specific cylinder you could swap that coil with another to see if the problem follows the pack or if its stays on the cyl.

partsource/napa might carry coil packs much cheaper

 

Did you just put the test pipes on? When I first put mine on it ran rough for a few days, and also threw a cel light. The test pipes caused it. If this is the case the roughness should settle down in a few days... As for the light if you wanna get the car tuned that will take the light away

 

It was a random misfire code. I unplugged 4 of the packs one at a time but couldn't get to the other 2 last night because it was too hot to get at them without burning my hand.

The test pipes were installed 2 years ago when I installed my headers.

The car was tuned before and was in the process of being retuned when the problem occured.

 

Probably it's the P0300 random misfire code. Is the car been in storage? Try to reset the ecu and see if it comes back?

 

Car isn't in storage anymore. Tried reseting the ecu 5 times last night with the pedal method and no change. Unplugged the battery to reset and it got rid of the cel for about 2 minutes.

Problem is with the #3 cyl. Pulled the wire off the coil and it is the only one that did not affect the idle. Going to pull the plug now and put in a new one then try a coil pack if that doesn't work.

 

Coilpack replaced and problem solved. 92.11 at crappytire. Napa had none in stock in the gta
