OUCH!!! I better start saving my pennies then, cause cams are on the list.

What would be your guesstimate @ crank-hp?

Looking at other charts, I noticed that most E46 M3s put down about Mid 270s rwhp and they are rated at 333 crank hp. So probably about 340 hp at the crank on a nice cool day! Nice car by the way!

I have been reading a gazillion threads on hp and torque on the Z, and I realize that a stock Z can vary between 230-245 rwhp and 220-235 lbs/ft torque. The "advertised" numbers are 287 and 274 (crank, not rear wheel). Also, some have estimated the drive train loss at 15-20%
So, I was speculating... (cause I had nothing better to do...)
If you put the numbers on a spreadsheet and play with them, I think you can learn some interesting things. Dynos are not accurate, and comparing different dynos is even worse, granted. But I just wanted to have an idea (+/- 5hp) of what a stock Z should be, since I neglected to dyno mine before I screwed with it.
Soooo, 80% of 287hp reaching the rear wheels is 230. 80% of 274 lp/ft torque is 219. That is consistent with the low numbers of all the dynos on stock Z's I read in the dyno thread.
When looking at all the stock dynos, it seemed to me like 235 hp and 230 ft/lb torque was more "common" (not a statistical avergage, more of an observation). I am including the numbers I observed at the end of this post for your viewing pleasure. If we consider these numbers and compare them to "advertised" crank numbers, then there is a 82% power transfer (18% loss) of hp and 84% transfer (16% loss) of torque. Pretty close to the 80% quoted figure.
Soooooo, I'll split the difference and say stock Z's suffer a 17% powertrain loss. Using advertised crank numbers of 287 hp and 274 lbs/ft of torque that should yield 238 hp and 227 ft/lb torque on a dyno for a stock Z. Give or take a few hp.
Is this making sense to anybody?
So what does all this mean? It means I was really bored and was wondering about this, and my mind works in weird ways. Anyone care to comment or add to this discussion?
Here are the numbers for dynos I've found in threads for stock Zs. The first is hp and the second is torque.

This car may say it has 280 or so but it pulls much harder. This car feels great and sounds great. I would think the 40 or so Horses mine lacks from his feels like 100. If yal can ever get a ride do it. It's bad ***.
Peace!!

Wow, great numbers from such a small number of mods. Imagine what would happen with some crazier Tomei cams! Hah, I think I will stay N/A for a little while longer... pick up some headers and buy all those little grounding kits from Sun Auto (Hey, if they at least gain 4 hp im happy cause my enine bay looks so plain :/)

Hello, I'm new here. I have a question about the XEDE. Did Vishnu install it or did ZCARGARAGE? Also, was there any wire splicing involved in the XEDE install or did Vishnu/ZCARGARAGE have a "jumper" harness already made? Thanks.

I still need to get my ecu and A/F tuned better and also try out a different dyno shop sometime, but according to the dyno shop near my house, I'm doing 268rwhp and 240tq SAE at about 80 degrees or so that day with my current mods (see sig).
I'm not sure what's up whether AZ just sucks for dynoing, that particular dyno shop sucks, my car somehow is weak/bad engine, or it's my A/F or ECU tuning. who knows.
My car feels like a monster though...

You numbers are practically the same with his in fact yours is a few rwhp more, both very impressive. I notice you are running colder plugs, why? Thats got to be hurting you a little.
Guys that run colder plugs usually are spraying.

On the 'LS1' it was normal for throwing misfire codes. Because of the cam profile/spec. We just deleted it using LS1-edit. I would think it would be the same for all cammed cars.
But you say you will be spraying anyways.
