Default flywheel choice?

Hello,
I`m slowly but surely making my Z a bit better. Less weight is the path I`ve chosen for now in terms of perf. upgrades. My 03` tranny is getting replaced soon, so I`m thinking hard about a light flywheel (I`ll keep the stock clutch for now). The Tilton is too much $ and too extreme for me. The units Ive found that seem like a good bang for the buck are:

-JWT: 14 LBS
-Unorthodox: 12-13 LBS
-JSC ?
-JUN?

The top two are between $400 and $500. Any ideas on them as far as quality differences? Input from owners on actual driving experiences compared to a stock setup would be appreciated too. Many comments about the car being `` a bit`` faster in revs, etc may dissuade me from going for it.

Thanks!
Jack

I've read good things about the Unorthodox. I'm not a big fan of aluminum flywheels because of their low heat dispersion and issues and they can warp easier. But Unorthodox uses a steel insert to help offset this issue.
If your sticking with the stock clutch (not too aggressive on flywheels), any of the above should work fine.
The RPS unit is another one you should look at. Good luck.

I just got the Unorthodox Racing Flywheel from Adam of www.z1auto.com, when I replaced my trannsmission on this past wednesday. I totally love it, I have no complaints at all. I kept the stock clutch and the car rides just as smooth as before except it revs alot quicker.

some people say the jun design is the best, and others will disagree. u'll find it's hard to get people to agree here .

Default flywheel search continues

Thanks guys,

Yeah, reaching a consensus here is a bit of a stretch, but I appreciate all the opinions. I`ve researched more and found that the unorthodox and JWT are alum., while the JUN is chromolly. So, if the modest price and weight differences are discounted, what do you think about the materials? I guess that chrom.l sounds less likely to bend than alum, and can`t separate as the JWT can due to its steel plate inserts ( is that design quote correct JWT people?). The JWT supposedly has an `insert` that can be replaced down the road, while the JUN may be `resurfaced`. The quotes on both show my ignorance. What time frame/cost are those choices? My tranny isn`t here yet - no surprise from my tire experiences - and that gives me more time to decide. Any final thoughts?

P.S. Who has the best price on JUN ?

Jack

if forced induction is planned, I'd go JUN..overall the billet construction is much stronger. The JWT and UR flywheels both have replaceable inserts. I cannot speak for the JWT/Fidanza unit, but we have never had to replace a single friction surface on any UR flywheel we have sold in 4 years.

There are design differences between the various 2 piece aluminum units....do some homework
