Default heard this from a nissan mechanic today - V8 in 2006

Yeah that's what he said.

That to better compete with the corvette and other high performance cars, Nissan will be putting in a V8 - possibly even the 5.7 liter one currently in the Titan

To make it fit, they'll extend the front of the car by a few inches

I know, we've heard it before - how would the tech know anything - dunno, but makes you think a little

my guess is since the titan engine is 350hp I think, I'm sure they can bump it up to 380-400hp at the crank via the performance tuning/parts. They'd hopefully put some wider/better tires on too

he also said sales of the Z are starting to go down a little and that's why the bump in power

- I'm under the impression that 70% of Z owners drive stock and got it cause of it's looks. I know we'd all like to think all Z owners are mod freaks, but let's get real.

I know! I kept thinking how are they gonna pull this off? They gotta be moving the wheels forward too to keep the weight as far back as possible.

They managed to balance the corvette fairly well, but that's partly cause I think they mount the transmission further back which I don't know if you'd be able to do or not - it'd be a major redesign.

one thing I've been noticing though, is the entire industry is trying to lean towards NA instead of FI as far as stock cars and reliability/cost to dealerships

That said, with some aluminum parts you could come up with a small block V8 that might weight less or the same as our V6. Also consider the weight that TTs add to the front (intervooler, TTs, brackets)...

Still, make the nose longer, add engine, something needs to move back I think...

I don't believe it. They don't need to put a V8 in it to give it a big HP boost. The 3.5 V6 is capable of much more power and the car already out weighs a corvette. Shaving a few pounds and some fine tuning of the 3.5 will give it the added power needed to compete with those cars.

I'd be kinda annoyed really if they end up boosting the engine up 100hp over stock after just recently spending a bunch of money to get about a NA 60 peak hp increase, but then again the 06's would be that much more behind for modding

I hope Nissan does not do that. If I wanted to buy a car and have it obsolete by the next year, I should have just got a mustang....

They should just twin turbo the Z like they used to and call it a day.
There is no need for a V8.
They could make plenty of power with BOOST.

I highly doubt that Nissan will drop the Titan/Armada DOHC 5.6 V8@305hp in the Z car for 2006. If anything I would think they would "update" the exterior/interior.

yeah but nissan probably won't go turbo cause the 300zx turbo cost them tons of money on warrenty issues to the point where they almost weren't making much money on it - also note how they had to end of life the Z for a while after the 300zx - partly to focus more on returning nissan to profitability.

I'm guessing it'd be either more liters, a V8, or possibly supercharger down the road for the Z coming stock

yeah. i work on the nissan websites, and the product line dept has been aggressively pushing the Marketing to lose the "350" part of the "350Z", and go with the Z(R) trademark.

I'm usually the last to hear any 'inside' info, but the speculation of this move in branding is for the flexibility in displacement upgrade in the near future.

It would make for an interesting swap, if I ever blow the engine, to consider the V8...

I don't particulary like turbos. So, relocate the battery back, shed a few things and drop the V8 in there...

A completely new engine in 2006? Only 3 years from a total re-design? Sounds pretty bogus to me. Also, the 350Z was never meant to compete with the Corvette. That is the job of the Skyline GT-R that is coming to the US finally in a few years. I highly doubt you will see a new engine in the 350z ever. I do see Nissan coming out with a 350Z SE-R complete with numerous upgrades and body mods but that is about it. The most I would expect is a factory turbo or supercharger.

In performance of perspective, GT-R was never design to compete with Corvette. It was design to compete with 911turbo. It was mentioned by Nissan CEO.

if the Z got the Titan V8, I would cry

It would be a profoundly useless vehicle!
Couldnt turn, not with 70/30 weight distrobution
Couldnt drag, no traction on the rear wheels
so in my book

AINT GONNA HAPPEN

I doubt Nissan would use the Titan V8. But they might use the VQ40 block from the Frontier to give the Z more HP. With the Z's good flowing head and the additional 0.5L, the Z can make 320+hp easily.
