Yeah, I've definitely had the ABS kick in while VDC was off (using the button). I don't mind that, though. I'm a big fan of ABS on a street car.

What belt #brand size are you using. I have the UR pulley, and might be interested doing this.

would disabling the power steering have a serious effect on autocrossing?

I can deal with stiffer steering in parking lots, I don't want to compromise autocross driving though....

also, how many of the power steering parts can be removed and how much do they weigh about? maybe 5-7 lbs?

Depends on how strong your arms are, and how quickly they'd tire! I guess autocrossing is pretty short, so you might not have a problem as long as your arm strength can turn the wheel fast enough to make all those quick, sharp turns. I personally don't think it's worth it on a daily driver. With 255s up front on my car, it's already pretty darn stiff. I can only imagine what a pain it would be without the power assist when parallel parking every day!

Ok, retarded Question here. What does VDC actually do?

To my knowledge, VDC is the same as the traction control system (TCS) that comes on the base model, but VDC adds yaw sensors into the mix in addition to the normal wheel slippage sensors that come with the base TCS. The basic idea behind any sort of traction control system is to keep the car from losing control, especially when you have a ham-fisted driver who doesn't know how to manage the car himself. There is no 350Z you can buy that doesn't have traction control, but they all give you the ability to turn it off, regardless. People have said that you can't 100% turn it off with the disable button in the car, and that may be true. But when mine is off I can get the car completely sideways and be as goofy as I want, so I really don't see a need to disable anything further.
