yeah I can attest to that
however, note that it also has it's own set of trade offs (more noise, more shifting, "lumpier" 1st and 2nd gear, slightly worse mpg, etc)
as a side note, I can think of a lot of ways that for most people would negatively change the Z into "a whole new animal" for $1000 though i'm not going to list what cause after seeing some people's Z's on these boards, it might offend them - though doubtful they'd be reading the performance section anyway...

lol a whole new animal? if i where you i would focus on one thing to make a bigger difference...for example if you want looks do a set of tein springs with a cf hood and front lip...or sumthin similiar...if you want speed do a nitrous kit with a set of test pipes. either way, looks or speed both of those setups is right around a g give or take some
I dunno, i like the suspension route but i see your point, if you're only looking to spend 1k then suspension is really out of the question. Sways would def be nice, plenum/spacer would help midrange a little and sound cool as someone mentioned, hf cats will be good esp. come FI if you dont want to go the test pipe route.
Id get the plenum(next on my list to get)
sways
hf cats
I'm in the same boat, i spend as much as i can on my car but it get expensive man, right now i have the greddy evo 2 exhaust, which i love because its not offensively loud but its louder than stock and IMO looks a lot nicer, and i have the tein flex coilovers, and i agree with whomever it was that said it, once i put the suspension on, it was like driving a whole new beast man, its so fun with those bad boys. I focused on suspension first, with the stillen sways and teins but i want to go turbo, maybe within the next summertime if all goes well.

Suspension sounds like a good way to go, if you ask me. You will be going F1 sooner or later (as you said), why not get the handling and suspension set up ready for it, then you are not wasting money later on!
Or will it mean a whole new suspension set-up when you do go F1?

For what it's worth. I added the 350Z intake tube, the RT H/F cats and the Crawford Plenum and picked up ~17.5 rwhp on my 2004.5 G35 Coupe.
The plenum and cats worked for me!
With all of the problems w/ RT and collapsing issues, I'd recommend Crawford Cats and Plenum. I believe so much in the Crawford products that I'm buying a slightly used set of Crawford Headers for ~$800 if the guy will ever ship them to me...
