Default ***Z's Top 6 Bolt-On Modifcations

Getting one (6speed base model) within 2 months and wondering what would be your first 6 mods to this car? I'm a newb to this car coming from a couple generations of muscle cars. List:...

1.
2.

etc

Thank you

John

If you plan on staying n/a I dont care what anyone says, a lightened clutch and flywheel, specifically the tilton assembly really wakes this car up. I've done the intake, the exhaust, high flow cats, etc etc and I noticed the biggest difference with the clutch and flywheel.

6 mods to change what about the car?

Change how it looks? drives? sounds?

my 6 mods would be:
(to improve driving feel)...

1) different tires
2) hotchkis or other swaybars
3) LSD, if base model
4) 3.9 FD + short shifter
5) TS ECU reflash for 7000+rpm redline (unless 05 track)
6) BBK, unless track model, then pads/ss lines
7) flywheel

the only engine mods (bolton or headwise) in my experience n/a that will give good power is camshafts (+15~), lightweight crank pulley (+5~), and headers/y-pipe (+5-+10). then its to pistons or FI.

I personally would work on the handling/braking dept. The car is already quite quick.

thanks for the suggestions but of course i wasn't clear on what type of mods. It was for performance like most everyone listed. I will be staying n/a and looking for bolts only. Not going into the engine so cams are out of the question. I guess simply bolt on mods only.

So far looks like starting with the biggest bang for the buck
1. Lightweight Clutch/Flywheel (anyone know how much stock weighs compared to stock)
2. Exhaust (What kind?)
3. Then bunch of little things that is owners preference.

Anything else? I only noticed one person suggesting an aftermarket shifter. How about that?

Do i need to change shocks with the spring change? Do you know the stock spring rates and the aftermarket spring rates??

Y-pipe and cats are primarily the restrictive parts of this car's exhaust system. Replacing the OE muffler and b pipe won't give you significant power gains.

nice rounded way to mod the car:

1. High-flow Upper Plenum & K&N Drop-In filter (actually two mods, but the filter is only $30, so i said **** it)

2 & 3. Complete exhaust (like Nismo S-tune) and High-Flow Cats

4. Clutch / Flywheel package (how light you go depends on how much noise you can deal with and how good a driver you are)

5. 350evo 3.917 final drive -- pain in the butt to get installed properly, and takes some time, but the single best modification you can make to the ability of your car to hit the autoX track hard and retain stock look/sound.

6. U/R underdrive crank pulley, helps the engine rev a little faster and takes a bit of rotating mass off the crank (along the same principle as the lightened flywheel)

just my picks...

Sounds good. Again more votes for the lightened flywheel/clutch, and Y-pipe. And another for crank pulley.

no forced induction. i wish i could.

1)cat back exhaust. Most will do just research and choose.
2)JWT pop-charger
3)Crawford Plenum
4)Crawford Cats
5)LSD (3.9 or just a stock one out of a wrecked car, but I would reccomend just upgrading to the 3.9)
6)Crawford Headers

That is all power though.

I would recommend more balance though such as; better pads, Hotchkis sways, better springs maybe even Koni yellows, LSD, and then light engine mods to start out with.

fyi, 3.9 is the final drive ratio... not the limited slip differential

but if you're upgrading one, you might as well do both and save an ***-load of $ on install/labor

that's why i'm waiting to decide where i'm going on head-work/cams before i install crawford headers

1. Nismo Suspension
2. High-flow plenum
3. High-flow cats
4. Tilton clutch
5. Tilton flywheel
6. Evo 3.91 final gear

Probably good for low 13's in a straight line and it'll handle great in the twisties too.
