Default Tranny getting replaced... get a Nismo clutch?

Well I am getting the tranny replaced under warranty for my 6th gear grind. (BTW I HIGHLY recommend South Point Nissan Service n Austin, so far they PWN Round Rock).

I asked the guy how much a NISMO setup will cost, since the best time to do it is when they have it all out, and I can get it all warrantied.

Still, is it worth it and what should I pay for a NISMO clutch and/or flywheel?

For those of you with Nismo clutch/flywheels, what differences do you feel?

bring your own parts to them and have them install those. I think the nismo parts are way overpriced.

Thanks man, thats not a horrible idea.. though I am leaning with just sticking to OEM. I really did like the stock clutch, and I would be looking at what, 300 bucks minimum for a new clutch/flywheel?

Since your tranny is under warrenty you get the new stock clutch for free with it. If you go with the nismo parts here are the prices,
Nismo flywheel $495.60
Nismo clutch $495.60
Those prices are directly off performancenissan.com, i'm sure your dealer will probably charge even more. Im going in for my 3rd tranny soon and im going to be bringing them a jwt clutch and flywheel this time around. I've priced it and i can get that setup for $765 shipped.

The Nismo stuff would be R tune so the parts have no warranty. You would have a warranty with the "stock" stuff. Something to ponder.

Hmmm for that much I think I may stick with stock. Like I said I did like the stock clutch but thought if it wasnt too much $$ I might consider upgrading.

At least the grrrrind will be gone

R-tune: Ideal for the Weekend Racer
NISMO R-tune parts are intended for the hard-core enthusiast or weekend racer. The goal with R-tune components is maximum performance, which compromises street civility. They are intended for off-highway use only and, as such, no warranty is offered for R-tune components and they are sold "AS IS".

Not trying to be an A$$.....

I would think you should get a discount. I mean, obviously, if they have to flip the bill for replacing everything .... then that should be subtracted from the upgraded parts. In other words, if the stock clutch and flywheel were... say $500, and the NISMO were $1K, then you should only have to pay the $500 difference, IMHO. I sure as heck would be giving it serious consideration.

your dealer should still warranty the nismo flywheel and clutch. WE have them listed on our site here:
http://performancenissanparts.com/ca...th=153_175_372

PM me for pricing, i can work something out for you.

WHen the tranny is down, might as well swap it or mod it, when's the next time you're gonna have it dropped right?

I did the same thing, they told me some BS my clutch was needing replacement not then but soon. They said since the tranny was under warranty, all I would have to buy is the clutch and they would throw it on free of charge and Nismo still under warranty. So picked one up from Performance (thanx guys), brought it to Nissan and said, throw this in instead. Done deal...04 Tranny, Nismo clutch disk and plate= paid only cost of clutch, they said they could do the flywheel too but I couldnt afford it.

What's your impression of the Nismo?

I would definitely go for the Nismo setup if I were you. Having driven a Z with the Nismo clutch and flywheel, I can say that it's definitely an improvement that you can feel every time you get on the gas. Redline approaches SO much quicker.

Good luck with your decision.

The nismo setup is real nice, but I prefer the JWT actually more so than the Nismo. THe JWT is lighter, and still drives for the most part like stock.

What's the main difference between the two?

If smoothness is more important than performance, which would you choose?

both the jwt and nismo are smooth, and perform well. the JWT is what we recomend though since the nismo, although nice, isn't too much lighter.
plus on the JWT all you have to do is replace teh flywheel disc, instead of turn and possible have to purchase a new flywheel....
