Phatmitzu-
How's your Pro1 engine damper? Easy to install? Where'd you get it?

Smile Engine Dampner

I was thinking about getting one of these but read on one of the forums a ways back that the Stillen Kit did not fit the Z properly and you had to enlarge the hole on the dampner?? Any truth to that??

Yes on some of the kits from stillen, you have to modify the bracket, just one hole is slightly off, but not bad, but enough to make you have to either enlarge it or re-drill it.
I am not sure if this is a problem with the bracket manufacturing, or with certain year 350Zs. 90% of our customers never had this issue, so it may be something that nissan changed (such as the location of one of the bolts on the fram rail etc..).
We are unsure, but when we did my install it bolted right in.

I know when I ordered my STB from crawford they asked what yr car I had. They stated that nissan made slight changes to the car around the strut towers on the '04s or '04.5s. I believe that this is the area where the damper kit installs?

Tony, what yr car do you have?

The Stillen engine damper mounts to the front of the motor, onthe framrail, not the strut tower.
The 5-ziggen engine damper mounts up there by the rear of the engine and pass. side strut tower

Like Tony said, there is sometimes a fitment issue with one of the brackets, but it's hit and miss. Some people don't have a problem, others do. There are 3 holes in a triangular pattern on the bracket which mounts to the frame rail. One of them is sometimes very slight off. Just a tiny bit. This prevents you from screwing the bolt in all the way. So, we just took a file and enlarged the hole a tiny bit. After that it fit like a champ.

I have the damper, and I'm sure it helps a little, but not enough
yowza -- how true on the bucking... it's like a rodeo bull in 1st...

the dampner helps a bit, but i think I'm going to have to put in solid mounts when i get around to building a motor

Solid mounts would make things much worse. It may prevent the motor bucking, but then all that will be transferred to the chasis, so you'll feel it way worse. The engine damper although stiff, ABSORBS the motor's shifting and bucking, solid mounts won't, they'll just transfer all that movement into the body of the car.
Not something to do if you care about ride quality

Anyone know if the Stillen dampener fits if an APS TT kit is fitted, I know the 5Zigen will fit but I think the piping on the ASP TT may foul the Stillen unit ?

Cheers

I'm going to order one from Performance. Is the install from the top or do you have to remove the wheel and underside of the fendor?

Thanks

From my understanding, it should be at the top. Does anyone have pictures of this specific kit installed? Did a search with no luck. I'll post pics of mine as soon as I get it with installed pics. Should be getting mine sometime today .

Works nice. Install was easy, bracketed to the strut tower bar bolt and the corner of the top plenum. A memeber was selling them awhile ago.
