Default replaceable steel surface on the jwt?

it may be a dump question, but i want to see how it works! read a lot about how jwt lightweight flywheel can help rev faster. so i planning to get one but how this replaceable steel friction surface work on the flywheel, it looks like the stock one does not have such thing! how long this steel surface will last? when do i know i need to replace it and by the time i need to replace it will cost me another 4 hours labor?? so does it worth the $$ to put this flywheel on considering the labor cost is just pain in @ss!!! please help a newbie out!
