Default Super loud rattle with B&m shifter

Well I installed my new version of the B&M shifter. Now I get this really loud annoying sound through the shifter. I had the old version and the noise was nowhere near as bad. I have taped all surfraces in wich meatal touches metal. I did not put any grease on anything, just a little on the bushing attaching the trans. I can't figure it out, especially since my old one didn't have this problem. also, it's not the factory **** because I don't use it. I use a momo one instead.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

The exact thing happened to me. Had the old one, got the new one in today and its worse. Have tried everything. I think it is because of the plastic sleve, the plastic thing that goes in the hole to hold in the shifter. Most aftermarket shifters use the stock on, so it fits better. B&M uses their own and i don't think the fitment is as good therefor it rattles. Im pissed. Im callin B&M back right now.

I called b&m and basically told them they have a design flaw. The moron I talkes to couldn't understand what I was trying to tell him. They just wanted me to send the shifter back. Yeah right. So they can tell me nothing is wrong.

I disassembled the entire shifter with plans of buying one of the $80 ones of ebay. There were two things I figured out.

1. The origanal shifter has a rubber between the plastic bushings on the end that connects to the trans. The B&m does not. O tried to put the oem bushings in the B&m, but they are bigger in circumfrence. I then took the rubber washer, cut a section out of it and put it in the B&M and jammed the metal sleeve through.

2.I think most of the noise comes from the pivot ball. There is a keychain ring type washer on top of it and it is not thick enough. The ball has play up and down. What I did was cut the washer off, it's like 2 layers, and put one layer back on. I bought a lock ring( I think that's the name), the kind you need special pliers to expand it, and put in on top of the single layer of the old washer. No more play in the ball.

I still get a slight noise above 4k at WOT, but now I think it's better than my 1st gen B&M shifter

The solution would be for B&M to make the ball solid. What I mean is all one piece. The pivot ball and the lower portion of the shifter are two pieces. They machine the piece anyway, why not make it all on piece

appearently they think they know everything

They made the guide stop larger. My old one was wearing away and would go under the guide plate when shifting into 5th gear.

They gave me no problem with exchanging the old one for the new one.

They told me it's the harmonics of the tranny..... BS, the stock one doesn't do that. It seems that 98% of B&M's in the Z rattles... Rogue = none that I have heard of... Im not too hapy considering in the type of person that everything has to be perfect so im going to look over the shifter again and see what I can do abotu the rattle.

I guess thats what you get from an American company. Alot of the 240sx users are having the same issues with the B&M

This could still be part of you problem. The stock shifter is tapered just after the threads, to compress a metal bushing inside the stock ****. The B&M isn't shaped like this. One thing I did notice is when my **** was not on,is that the noise wasn't as loud. any **** will resonate the sound greatly.

Oh. I have a MOMO shift ****. Its bolted on by 3 screws on the side. It does have a plasic insert that goes over the shifter. No sure if that makes any difference.
